You DON'T have to go through a market though. It's just the quickest(and laziest) way.

You do have to go through the market. Card drops per games are limited.
I quite like this idea, adds something meaningful to crafting badges.
I have the gold ship from that summer event years ago, it's fucking ace. Much easier to see your ship amongst the chaos. :v:

Or you trade them like you're supposed to. They're called trading cards for a reason.
While I already have the gold ship from the summer event, and have no interest in the new ship.
I hope things like this start to carry over in to other games. It actually gives a reason for crafting the badges, instead of just getting and selling them.
Wait, Beat Hazard updated with a new ship? Awesome! Too bad it requires some cards I'd imagine are ridiculously rare.

At the current prices it'd cost about £12 to get the cards for the foil badge.
What's this new dragon ship look like anyway?

It's in the article: "Further details on the new ships can be found here"
People didn't seem to like it, because "nooo now my gold ship isn't rare and l33t now anyone can have it" and "wow that dragon ship is OP omg pay2win". At least that's what I saw in Steam comments.
And here's the dev's response.

This isn't primary school where everybody played the same TCG. Valve should of implemented a trading hub for the cards so you can just search up people that have what you want and just click on a button to trade with them.

"Note: The new ships are cosmetic only. They won't give you a score advantage if you use them."
OP says that it gives boosted points. So which is it?
