i've never heard of impulse until now and i'm definetly never going to use it
fucking gamestop
I'm sorry gamestop you still won't compete with steam.
you already have a download service and guess what it sucks
"Competing with steam" haha what a joke
Wait people still use impulse?

No that's just an illusion they want to make
The only time I heard of Impulse was with DemiGod, and the integration was awful.
I only use Impulse because Stardock don't sell their games on steam. Sins is the only game I have on it.
Impulse is great.
kinda iffy about this sale, though

Pretty much. The only game I own on Impulse is Sins. It's a shame it's not sold on Sins.
Still, the fact that Gamestop bought them out won't stop me from checking out and possibly buying the next Sins expansion.
Ugh gamestop is getting in everything and I don't like it, when I think of gamestop I think of dirty stores
I've never heard of anyone saying they bought something out of Impulse, so where does these sales come from?

Sins isn't sold on Sins, what a shame.
I only have used Impulse for SoSE, and GalCiv 2. I hated impulse too because it takes for-fucking-ever to download anything. Also the annoying "HEY LOOK WE HAVE A SALE BUY THIS NOW LOLOL" pop ups it gives every so often. It really sucks and I would never use it if the two games I have were on Steam. There is no way it can 'win' in this 'competition' with steam. Steam already won, game over.
As I mentioned on the Stardock forums, I am somewhat worried about the fate of people's game subscriptions now that Impulse has been purchased. The other worry is seeing some mandatory update that cocks things up.
The only way to compete with steam is to be better than steam, and that is VERY FUCKING HARD TO DO
I can't imagine we're the only developer/publisher abandoning the platform due to GameStop. I highly doubt GameStop even cares about the Gamers Bill of Rights. GameStop does not put customer satisfaction at its highest priority, it puts profits at highest priority. As I've written already, we have no confidence in their customer support or their ability to anticipate and deliver the PC market viable competition.
Further, they have no interest in the PC market. Anyone who has shopped there for the last ten years can tell you all about the constantly shrinking PC section. My wager on why it's shrinking: They can't resale games so they're only going with surefire bets. What does this mean for indies? Well, I don't see 'guaranteed profit' written across indie titles. GameStop only stocks PC games that do. Maybe they'll compromise a bit but I imagine they want to be the 'premier' experience. The exclusive, blockbuster selling, GameStop. Not the dime-a-dozen indie game GameStop.
Not only have dark clouds suddenly gathered over the future of Impulse, it seems that the near-future horizon has also caught fire. If GameStop hasn't already said to Brad "we will honor that bill of rights" then I bet they don't intend to. And I bet that'd be one of the first things he would say if they did intend to honor them.
I love how people who have no idea how impulse works are ragging on it. Impulse was great.
It was basically steam, only the client was optional. Use the client to download the game, and to keep it updated, but you don't have to use the client to run the game at all if you don't wish. Brilliant design.
Shame I can't purchased from them at all now that they are owned by Gamestop.
I don't mind impulse, well didn't, might change. Good to be able to buy and not have to have the client running all the time to play the games.
Got all the Sins of solar empire games and Operation arrowhead DLC on it.
I wish the steam client could be completely optional like impulse
