• Women's March: Millions March In Country to Protest Trump
Millions of women gathered in Washington and cities around the country Saturday to mount a roaring rejoinder to the inauguration of Donald Trump one day earlier. The historic protests of a new president packed cities large and small — from Los Angeles to Boston to Park City, Utah, where celebrities from the Sundance Film Festival joined a march on the snowy streets. In Chicago, the demonstration was overwhelmed by its own size, forcing officials to curtail its planned march when the crowd threatened to swamp the planned route. In Washington, there was confusion about whether the hundreds of thousands of demonstrators jamming the Mall had grown too large to formally march to the White House. Janaye Ingram, in charge of logistics for the Women’s March, went to the microphone Saturday afternoon to announce that the actual marching would still happen — just not using the original route. “We are marching, and we are using Constitution Avenue,” she told the massive gathering. And the Women’s March twitter account declared: “We are marching! We are marching straight ahead toward the Washington monument to the ellipse! #WomensMarch”. The Washington organizers, who originally sought a permit for a gathering of 200,000, said Saturday that as many as a half million people participated, dwarfing Friday’s inaugural crowd. More than 470,000 people had taken Metro by 1 p.m., a weekend ridership record. (By 11 a.m. on Inauguration Day, 193,000 trips had been taken.)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/womens-march-on-washington-a-sea-of-pink-hatted-protesters-vow-to-resist-donald-trump/2017/01/21/ae4def62-dfdf-11e6-acdf-14da832ae861_story.html?utm_term=.7a63a212e120 https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/projects/cp/opinion/presidential-inauguration-2017/standing-together-or-trying-anyway http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/01/21/510932265/demonstrators-gather-early-to-kick-off-womens-march-on-washington
This gives me hope.

What are they actually protesting? Is it specific policy put forward by Trump or just the very fact that Trump is president?
The fact that Trump got elected after being such a total shitbag shows that we still have a long way to go. However, the fact that he's so damn unpopular shows that we are getting there.
Would've gone to one if I could've. Sounds like it would've been awesome to be at.
What are they actually protestings? Is it specific policy put forward by Trump or just the very fact that Trump is president?
The latter. I don't know if you've noticed but he's a very unpopular guy.
What are they actually protesting? Is it specific policy put forward by Trump or just the very fact that Trump is president?
Everything to do with Trump.
What are they actually protesting? Is it specific policy put forward by Trump or just the very fact that Trump is president?
Probably the fact that Trump and his cabinet's blatant misogynistic views should have been a lot more condemned than they actually were.
What are they actually protesting? Is it specific policy put forward by Trump or just the very fact that Trump is president?
Probably a combination of the two.
The latter. I don't know if you've noticed but he's a very unpopular guy.
Isn't that a direct protest against the democratic system? [editline]21st January 2017[/editline]
Probably the fact that Trump and his cabinet's blatant misogynistic views should have been a lot more condemned than they actually were.
So a protest of the people who elected him? [editline]21st January 2017[/editline] These vague protests just kind of bother me. It's the reason they never end up going anywhere. They should pick very specific things and protest for those to change, like the civil rights movement did, or even the Tea Party.
Isn't that a direct protest against the democratic system?
NO.
The democratic system that many people insist is anti-democratic, yes.
What are they actually protesting? Is it specific policy put forward by Trump or just the very fact that Trump is president?
The whole "grab her by the pussy" locker room talk thing really pissed off a lot of people, and rightfully so because it showed he's a blatant misogynist. And while I don't know any specifics, I'm seeing some things about Planned Parenthood, so I'm assuming he's trying to fuck with that too.
Isn't that a direct protest against the democratic system? [editline]21st January 2017[/editline] So a protest of the people who elected him?
It's essentially a Women's Rights protest which centers around the policies that Trump's supporters in power are trying to push like defunding PP, the outlaw of abortion, etc. etc and similar policies that go down that line of thinking to keep women from having the right to control over their own bodies. If you're trying to bait people into implying that this protest doesn't have a purpose, then please don't. It very obviously does have a purpose and the fact that there are thousands of people in attendance should speak to that.

I just see so many of these modern protests having vague disagreements about massive subjects without any actual, realistic, goal (see occupy wall-street, BLM, etc.).
https://www.womensmarch.com/mission/ If you're gonna be oblivious, please at least do some research. That's not to say that grassroots movements can sometimes do some good, but not all of these massive protests are coming from a place without leadership. Like I said, look into them beforehand. Will save you some time and answer your questions.

Any of the questions you asked in this thread could have been answered by the article
So what, are women just supposed to lie down and take it because trump was democratically elected? They're protesting that a blatant and proud misogynist is now the leader of our country, that their policies such as defunding Planned Parenthood directly hurt their rights as women and physically hurt them and kill them when women can't get the specific healthcare they need to survive. The rates of maternal mortality has gone up in states where the government has made it impossible to get the healthcare they need in state and all people say is "why should we have to pay to fix the mistakes of women who can't keep their legs closed?" as if they deserve to die for something like that. These policies are literally, and I'm going by the definition, killing them. I went through it and these seem to be their specific policy points (https://www.womensmarch.com/principles ): 1) They are against any and all restrictions on abortion. 2) They want an Equal Right's Amendment on the constitution, although I'm not sure what that would entail. 3) They want totally open borders.
I hope there will be a march on climate change too. Not that woman rights aren't important, but because Trump's climate change policies will affect us all, not just America.
3) They want totally open borders.
I don't understand this point and relevancy to womens movement
Woman's health concerns, I'd imagine. I'm supportive of the cause, but I admit I'm not really well versed in the whole issue. I've never had to deal with the issue first hand. I have good female friends that depend on birth control for hormonal imbalances. But I know very little about how difficult it is to get such treatments. When someone says they want better access to birth control, I feel like that's kind of a vague explanation of the issue. I'm curious to know more about it. And if I feel that way, wanting to know more... People like my extremely conservative mother seem to think these people are protesting for free abortions as a means of birth control. I feel like there might be a big misunderstanding of the issue with many conservatives.
What are they actually protesting? Is it specific policy put forward by Trump or just the very fact that Trump is president?
They're protesting that a woman lost the election. (User was banned for this post ("Shitposting" - Pascall))
They're protesting that a woman lost the election.
No I'm pretty sure they're protesting Mr. Pussy Grabber.
They're protesting that a woman lost the election.
Or maybe that an admitted sexual predator won it.
On CNN this morning a lady was holding a sign saying "Why is the saying 'Grow some balls'? It should be grow a vagina, those can take a pounding!" I thought that was kind of funny. Was in the background for awhile.
I don't understand this point and relevancy to womens movement
It seems to be more a movement of women than a movement for women's issues.
