• PETA reacts to Orca infant's death
Another SeaWorld orca has died prematurely in captivity—this time, heartbreakingly, the deceased was a mere 10 months old. The infant, Vicky, died over the weekend at Loro Parque, an amusement park in Spain's Canary Islands. SeaWorld's reckless disregard hurts orcas and endangers those who come into contact with them.
http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/archive/2013/06/17/rip-vicky-10-month-old-seaworld-orca-dies-in-captivity.aspx Orcas are my favorite animals, I've gone whale watching and they are really worth the 80 dollars.
Sad :(.
What baffles me is how they haven't been able to keep a great white shark in captivity without it dying.
What baffles me is how they haven't been able to keep a great white shark in captivity without it dying.
They don't feed on things that are already dead, and keeping a constantly supply of live seals for it is ethically questionable at best.
What baffles me is how they haven't been able to keep a great white shark in captivity without it dying.
Monterey Bay Aquarium keeps a juvenile one every year for a few weeks. Some have died, some have lived. You can only keep babies somewhat successfully because when they're under maturity they stay close to the shore and feed on fish. Once they come of age they head out to sea, follow the migration routes, start eating seals, and get too large and sensitive for captivity.
The irony is that many PETA members are inbred too.
Lets ignore all the animals SeaWorld rescues, and concentrate on one dead Orca because it's cute.
They don't feed on things that are already dead, and keeping a constantly supply of live seals for it is ethically questionable at best.
Since I'm a snake owner and feed my snakes live mice, I've always been a little odd about this issue. The more 'cute' an animal seems to people, the more rights we give them apparently. I find it to have retarded double-standards, in all honesty.
A great white shark tank with an island of seals in the middle would be metal as fuck. [editline]23rd June 2013[/editline] Give them enough depth to breach, and put the seals food on the outside wall of the enclosure so they have to swim for it.
A great white shark tank with an island of seals in the middle would be metal as fuck.
Then all the seals die because of the lack of fish. COME ON OvB.
Adult gws don't usually mess with fish so You could fill the tank with them for the seals. But since they're adults you have to make the tank the size of the American east coast, and make the tank absorb no vibrations at all so you don't drive the sharks insane.
Although I do on some level agree with PTEA , I do not agree with their methods.
the way orcas are treated in captivity in general pisses me off a lot of them become manic depressive and start thrashing about and slamming themselves against things at some point because they cant stand the conditions anymore
wow, a time when I actually agree with PETA
I've heard zoo animals are often fed anti-depressant and shit like xanax so they don't go insane. Which makes sense because when you see a lot of zoo animals they seem pretty lethargic.

PETA admitted to kill half of the animals that it "saves". If that's not insane enough for you to support this retarded organization, you're an idiot.
Oh gawd PETA PETA is so fucking hypocritical. I remember something along the lines of them killing animals by putting them to sleep. Which is something they protested about in LA and other larger cities in the 2000's.
Orcas are assholes. Still, I don't think we should hold them captive, mainly once they show clear wish to leave. They are way too fucking scarily intelligent for that. I am not buying the stupid "animals are also people" nonsense which is supposed to make cows too important to end up on my platter, but Orcas and other big sea mammals like Dolphins and other whales are far past my "don't let intelligent beings suffer" comfort zone.

After a while, 80% will become lethargic as well.
The ironic thing about this is that they would of killed the whale in the name of PETA, they believe that all captive animals be it pets or zoo creatures should be euthanized, and that humans should leave nature be. But why would Peta notice this irony, after all that requires basic brain functions.

why do they care? they'd just euthanize it if they got their hands on it
why do they care? they'd just euthanize it if they got their hands on it
No they wouldn't, it's an orca not a dog.
No they wouldn't, it's an orca not a dog.
ingrid newkirk sterilized herself im sure she wouldnt mind sterilizing the earth of this orca
No they wouldn't, it's an orca not a dog.
They'll find a way.
They'll find a way.
Reclassification of the orca as a technical sea dog. Voila!
The irony is that many PETA members are inbred too.
hilarious coming from you
I dont think PETA understands animals die all the time I mean yeah, It got trapped and died due to it, but it could of died in the wild quicker.
