For some obscure reason apple forces you to pay for upgrades to the ipod touch - But do you get the latest version when you first buy/activate it? I'm planning to buy an ipod touch from amazon (so the stock may be old but idk), but this isn't explained anywhere at all. I don't really want to be paying £6 extra on an already overpriced product just to get to the latest software version.
If you buy from apple, then yes. If you buy from anywhere else, maybe
Yeah, all iPods and iPhones sold since 3.0 was released come preloaded with FW 3.0 I believe. IF you get it from Apple. And probably Amazon or whatever.
Hurrm, dodgy. I think I'll take the risk with amazon then - It's £152 on amazon (with free shipping) and £165 from apple, so even if it turns out not to be 3.0 it'll still end up cheaper.
My dad just bought one 2 weeks ago and it didn't come with 3.0 on it, it came with 2.2.1 or something like that, we had to pay the stupid $10 upgrade fee

Oh well, when you've paid £150 for something another £6 makes little difference even if it is extortion.
I found when updating my iPod Touch V3 forced me to restore it, was not impressed. Then the same thing happened when I went from 3.0.0 to 3.0.1 on my iPhone!
i don't get why apple doesn't give it to you free, you're paying a large amount already
because they dont suck money out of you through network charges
I really feel like i got the shit end of the stick. I don't know where mine came from(got it as a gift), but when i got my first ipod touch a while ago, i got os 2.0 on it for free, so i thought i would get 3.0 for free on this one too. Unfortunately not...had to fork out the extra ten bucks to get it, not really worth it.
Wait, people actually buy the updates? Google it, you'll find it anywhere.
You don't even need an iTMS account to update.
Wait, people actually buy the updates? Google it, you'll find it anywhere.
I decided to buy it to be on the safe side. Are there any drawbacks to doing this, like does itunes figure it out and shit a brick?
No, it won't. It will work just like V3 with no differences.
No, not at all.
I decided to buy it to be on the safe side. Are there any drawbacks to doing this, like does itunes figure it out and shit a brick?
It won't. You can just download the .ispw from any 3rd party website, and iTunes will even install it for you. And yes, I'm aware that this update costs money while I'm promoting downloading it for free. But fuck Apple, they do this completely out of greed. They add a search feature and some lame ass copy and paste that was possible via jailbreak forever, and they decide to sell it. Some companies should start paying attention to Valve.
