• Boston bombings: 6 things cops know that most Americans don't

I had posted a thread before about "10 things Cops know, but most dont" probably near a month ago. Today I bring you another. These are not made by me, I do not edit them. This is a repost.
1.) There is evil in the world. We can scramble for meaning and theories and existential answers but you don’t have to be a believer in the supernatural to see that some people just want to kill and destroy. Many commentators and reporters centered on the theme of why a person everyone describes as a nice, normal guy could do this. Study it all you want my friends. No one is immune from the influence of wickedness. 2.) This is why we have seen the militarization of the police. This week’s events will not silence those who say that SWAT tactics and “military grade weapons” are not appropriate for civilian policing, but it will mute them for a while. Guess what: you want us to deal with bombers and mass murder? Then give us those tools. 3.) Facts and theories are golden. Conjecture is foolishness. We don’t try to keep the public in the dark. We just can’t play “expert commentator” and throw out a bunch of possible scenarios. We deal in evidence. Facts. Rational probabilities. Trust us and don’t blame us for silence or misinformation. We’ll tell you what is appropriate to be shared at an appropriate time. 4.) Cops are not omniscient or omnipresent. We work within the laws of physics. The cheers after Tsarnaev’s arrest were preceded by impatient questions of how he had gotten away from “all those cops.” If we could recruit officers with psychic powers we would. 5.) The applause will fade. We’ll bask in appreciation while we can, but the next police officer who is murdered will not make CNN headlines. Jesus was welcomed with shouts of adoration not many days before the crowds turned and called for his crucifixion. Maybe you won’t forget, but you probably will. 6.) This is what we face every day. Every. Day. Shootouts with murderers? Well, not many of us have, but all of us are standing in line and ready for it. You can say, “I’m out of harm’s way because I’m not in a war zone” but if shooters and bombers have taught us anything it is that they can strike anywhere, anytime. I can’t think of any warrior cop that I know that would have hesitated one minute to go to Boston if called or who thinks that kind of thing couldn’t happen in their patrol area.
There is evil in the world, it's called the government.
There is evil in the world, it's called the government.
You just don't calm down do you?
#2 seems a little suspect to me. We all recognize the need for police to be properly equipped to deal with serious threats- nobody's forgotten Waco. The criticism is when police are using assault rifles and SWAT-like tactics in ordinary policing, as opposed to actual crisis response. I know that you need an assault rifle and breaching tactics to respond to a threat on the level of a shooting spree or terrorist attack, but using them to retrieve documents from a business is excessive.
There is evil in the world, it's called the government.
we also have stupidity on this forum. you.
Jesus, could that site be anymore bias
First thing that came up on Google, I can find you another site that will tell you the exact same thing about the incident in question if you like. Point still stands, the issue isn't with police having the capacity to deal with serious threats, it's using that capacity when it isn't warranted.
There is evil in the world, it's called the government.
The government is a completely different kind of evil. They have reasons for what they do. #1 refers to the kind of people who destroy because the want to, like the Joker from The Dark Knight.
There is evil in the world, it's called the government.
Government, at best, is a necessary evil, at worst, an intolerable one.
You just don't calm down do you?
I think his avatar could have told you that..
Government, at best, is a necessary evil, at worst, an intolerable one.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I trust the government. They're meant to protect the people they govern, allowing the creation of a safe, civilized society. The government (at least the U.S.) isn't out to take your freedoms. Corporations are what worry me more than the government.

I'm not saying go around wearing a tin foil hat but questioning authority is the job of a good citizen in a free state. It's one of the ways of keeping that free state in check. Remember we've been lied to before and it cost us not only freedoms but also our lives.
I don't get why people hate governments, they change every election.
God, I really just love how both of these terrible "Things the cops know that you don't" articles that you've posted are absolutely DRIPPING with condescension and are written in the most atrocious way possible. How much better does the holier-than-thou motherfucker who wrote this think he is than ordinary civilians?

Over his 30 year career in uniformed law enforcement and in criminal justice education Joel has served in a variety of roles: academy instructor, police chaplain, deputy coroner, investigator, community relations officer, college professor, and police chief, among others. Shults earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Missouri, with a graduate degree in Public Services Administration and bachelors in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Central Missouri. In addition to service with the US Army military police and CID, Shults has done observational studies with over fifty police agencies across the country. He currently serves on a number of advisory and advocacy boards including the Colorado POST curriculum committee as a subject matter expert..

Well, this dude's resume speaks for that tone:
Huh, I wasnt aware that having certain qualifications granted you permission to be an asshole. Cant wait till I pick up an MS in environmental science so I can start being a total prick to people!

I'm saying that this dude has so much shit on it that he feels that hes better than others.

Television was a large contributor to the anti-Vietnam movement. Even Arab Spring was propelled by Facebook and Twitter.

If they didn't organizations like Wikileaks wouldn't exist.
I don't get why people hate governments, they change every election.
Certain parts of government are pretty easy to hate and don't change much, like the Legislative branch of the fed.
You know the government withholds a hell of a lot of information from the public right? If they didn't organizations like Wikileaks wouldn't exist.
And I think it that Wikileak's very existence shows that it's not easy for them to lie without getting caught. Anyways, I don't want to derail the thread any further.
And I think it that Wikileak's very existence shows that it's not easy for them to lie without getting caught. Anyways, I don't want to derail the thread any further.
So if you know the government is straight up lying how can you trust them? How can you trust them after they try to silence someone trying to make the government more transparent like Assange? For fucks sake, if you know someone is lying to you, wouldn't that make you more suspicious about what they have to say and what their intentions are?
Jesus, could that site be anymore bias
Considering this thread, you're not really one to comment on position of bias.
But do they know why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
