Organisation sends solar powered Bibles to Haitian capital.
AS international aid agencies rush food, water and medicine to Haiti's earthquake victims, a US faith-based group is sending Bibles to Haitians in their hour of need.
Not just any Bible.
These are solar-powered audible Bibles that can broadcast the holy scriptures in Haitian Creole to 300 people at a time.
Called the "Proclaimer," the audio Bible delivers "digital quality" and is designed for "poor and illiterate people", the Faith Comes By Hearing group said.
According to their website, the Proclaimer is "self-powered and can play the Bible in the jungle, desert or ... even on the moon!"
The Albuquerque-based organisation said 600 of the devices were already on their way to Haiti.
It said it was responding to the Haitian crisis by "providing faith, hope and love through God's Word in audio".
With tens of thousands of Port-au-Prince residents living outdoors because their homes have collapsed or they fear aftershocks from last week's quake, the audio Bible can bring them "hope and comfort that comes from knowing God has not forgotten them through this tragedy", the group said.
While a good idea i think the majority would rather it be food and medical supplies.
Awesome idea for a bible. Stupid idea to be sending them there now.
Yeah, who needs food and water when you can have the power of God powered on the power of the Sun which is also the power of God!
who needs food and medicine when you have Jesus?
At least now they can make a fire...
They should have made the proclaimer play that famous Proclaimer's song, now that's motivation right there.
On the moon? Bullshit. Sound waves can't travel through a vacuum.
You can't read a normal version of the Bible in jungle, desert or on the Moon?

Praise the Power of God?

This man speaks sense.
Hmmm. Maybe if they pray REALLY HARD they'll get some food instead.
Solar powered audio books? Neat.

Of course not. Didn't you read the article? The help group called them illiterate
You know, there is plenty of food and water going into Haiti every day. Hell, most of it is sitting in airport hangers waiting for distribution.
What is virtually nonexistent in Haiti, however, is faith and hope. Haiti is a very religions country, and maybe these Bibles will help keep the victims' spirits alive and prevent them from going insane.
Haiti is similar to the rest of Latin America in that it is a predominantly Roman Catholic country with 80%-85% professing Catholicism and approximately 20% professing Protestantism. A small but growing population of Muslims exists in the country, principally in the capital of Port-au-Prince.
If 80%-85% of the fucking country is religious, WHO THE FUCK ARE THEY TRYING TO CONVERT????
[editline]1[/editline]
Rate me dumb if you could care less about these facts and would rather jump on the "HURF DURF RELIGION IS FOR IDIOTS" bandwagon. :bandwagon:

Lies, that's what Satan wants you to think. There is no such thing as vacuums...
...or the moon...
...or science.
Llthat's what Satan wants you to think.
Well then it seems I owe Satan thanks for teaching me science.
Gotta love people using human suffering to further their own agenda. Absolutely disgusting, these people need food, water, medicine and shelter. Not fucking bibles.

By reading it they're driving themselves insane.
They could be giving them actual solar generators, but I guess solar-powered bibles are just as useful.

Do those 2 people who rated me disagree not understand sarcasm?

I'm sure alot of people want to hear the loving words of god after he just fucked their shit up.
"I shall rend you from the face of the earth and than send bibles, but if any of you are angry at me, you will GO TO HELL for your blasphemous thoughts! I mean.. its not like I did anything wrong! Whats a couple hundred thousand human lives?"

I just really hate the idea of taking advantage of someone when their like this. You pick this moment...of all moments to try and convert them?
Doesn't that seem a bit fucked up to you?

I know a lot of people here wouldn't understand, but look at it this way. Haiti is a very Christian country. I know religion has many problems, but it is also very good at consoling and inspiring people in times of trouble. Hearing the bible might be the only comfort these people can get right now.
Faith gets the job done kids.

Basically it's a coping machanism.
There's nothing wrong with sending them Bibles, though food and clean water should be the priority.
I feel like this was a large waste of money. Couldn't they just get some speakers and a priest? All of that money could of been used to help buy food and clothes.
Kinda revolting, really. Somehow church goers realize that the best time to snag someone is when they have nothing, and yet they still are able to ignore the glaringly obvious fact that religion is just a security blanket.
