Hey, I am getting my LG 34UM65 delivered tomorrow, I have GTX 970 with: 1xHDMI, 1xDP, 2xDVI ports. I will have three monitors, but I am not sure whats best way to connect them. ViewSonic 22" - DVI (Currently connected like: Monitor -> DVI-HDMI adapter -> HDMI cable -> HDMI port) BenQ - VGA (Currently connected like: Monitor -> VGA -> VGA Cable -> VGA to DVI adapter -> DVI port) New monitor has DP, HDMI and DVI. I have one of these lying around hose: I wonder if: I leave BenQ as it is. Connect that splitter to Video card DVI. Connect ViewSonic 22" via HDMI cable. So in the end ViewSonic is as: Monitor DVI -> DVI-HDMI Adapter -> HDMI cable -> splitter HDMI port -> splitter DVI port to Video card DVI. And then just connect new LG straight via HDMI to GPU. Would that work? I know it's a lot of unneccesary steps as I could just get DVI cable for my ViewSonic and link them directly but I have no budget left for it so I would like to utilize whatever I have around house. Also is it okay to connect 2560x1080 60hz via HDMI? Or do I need DP?
I'm not sure about the others, but I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to do 2560x1080 over HDMI unless your GPU and monitor support HDMI 2.0.
My 680 could do 2560x1080 over HDMI.
Was it 60 hz though? Pretty sure 1920 x 1200 60 hz is the max limit of HDMI 1.4.
Looks like it should support it. I guess YMMV. [editline]22nd April 2015[/editline]
I had 2560x1600 just fine with a DVI cable which is eletronically HDMI
Dual link DVI will, single link won't. Its specified limit is 1920x1200 @ 60 hz (which is probably what I was thinking of, not HDMI 1.4). HDMI is most similar to single link. But has a lot more gotchas on resolution limitations I guess.
Was it 60 hz though? Pretty sure 1920 x 1200 60 hz is the max limit of HDMI 1.4.
Yeah, 60hz. "Maximum bandwidth" is a bit of a sham with those though. IIRC dual link DVI shouldn't even be able to push 2560x1440 120hz from a technical standpoint.
My GPU is GTX 970, I assume its HDMI 2.0? Also monitor I think but not sure supports HDMI 2.0
It worked like a charm, I connected everything the way I thought and it worked. Monitor came with absolutely huge HDMI though, short but the gauge of wire was pretty huge, not like any of the shit cables I owned before.
