If you don't remember what this project is, here's the whole WIP thread on it. http://www.bayareaairsoft.org/forum/index.php/topic,4348.0.html The Version 2 M6C/SOCOM kit has been finished for a while, but it wasn't until recently that I setup an account on Shapeways. Now I can sell the kit on their site and they will build and ship it to whoever wants to buy it. Grant it, it's still quite expensive, but I figured I'd put it up for anyone who was seriously considering one. Features -Fits railed 1911 and Hicapa models -Light Module has room for a small LED flashlight -Parts Include: Front End, 2 Piece Light Module, Trigger Guard, Slide, and 3 different sized slide attachment blocks. Notes: Parts may require sanding and filing for a proper fit. I have not printed the full Ver.2 kit myself due to a lack of funds, but the only possible issue there may be is with the slide attachment. I'll be ordering the Ver.2 slide later to test it. Price: $400 for White Strong & Flexible material $617 for Grey Robust (Stronger ABS Plastic, same material used in the Version 1) Where to Buy http://www.shapeways.com/model/118351/m6c_v2.html Helmet Camera Footage of the Ver 1 in Action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJnkMOMu9WM Milsim Junkie's Close-up on the M6C. Very cool, Ender! How long did it take for you to come up with this design?
It's based off of halo.
Very cool, Ender! How long did it take for you to come up with this design?
I didn't come up with the initial design, you can thank Bungie for that. But I designed the first version off of nothing but a side view closeup and 1 or 2 small in game screen shots before the game came out. All of the internals had to be designed from scratch, requiring me to measure my Hicapa to create an accurate model. As for how long it took to design, the majority of the Ver.1 was created in 3 days. I pulled some long nights working on this. Day one started at 9pm and didn't end til sometime later than 1am. Small details such as the trades were added afterward when I decided to get around to it.
I think I might die of sticker shock
400 dollars for some plastique on your plastique
Never said it would be cheap. The price it's being sold at isn't much higher than the cost of materials for these 3D printers. Heck, it's cheaper than if I was to try to print these kits locally on the 3D printers we have around here. Would have been over $600 in materials then. A cheaper way I could sell this would require me to design a mold, but between work and school I simply don't have the time for such things.
So what are the advantages of having this?
1. Cool factor (if you're into ODST props) 2. Sound amplifier, makes the muzzle pop significantly louder. 3. Slimmer sights make for more accurate aiming. Other than that there's no real advantages to it. It's more of a prop to satisfy Halo fan boys, that is once I get permission to sell them on the 405th forums.
This is cool stuff though. Sad that Airsoft has to be expensive as ball sacks damn you earthlings stupid humans and your "material currency"
Overall not as expensive as other hobbies though. Once you get basic gear and stuff then the price isn't so bad. Unless your a gear whore who has 9 different loadouts.
I know you said that it'll fit on railed Hi-Capas, but will it fit on a Baby Hi-Capa?
If it has a rail, then yes. It was designed to fit 5.1 and smaller. With an extra screw through the slide catch lever hole it should be solid.
