• Graphics card Squealing! Argh!

I've had this problem for a bit, but i realized it was the graphics card not too long ago. My specs follow: Q9650 @ 4.2 GHz (finally got my megahalem <3) EVGA GTX 280 - the squealing bitch 4GB DDR2-800 MHz RAM. (Can get up to around 1020 with looser latencies) ASUS P5Q Deluxe Basically, the GTX 280 squeals when its working hard. Taken from TweakTown
caused mainly by unshielded copper coils and low quality capacitors
article http://www.tweaktown.com/news/10673/reasons_behind_the_gtx_280_squealing/index.html So, is there something i can do to make it a bit more tolerable? Its getting annoying. I run my fans @ 100 percent, same thing with lower clocks, and higher clocks. Always squeals. Any ideas? D:
# Change the power cable. Incredible, but it did work on some cases reported by my friends. # Is your power clean or “dirty”? Putting a power-filter such as UPS might help. High end cards do that, both my 8800's do it
High end cards do that, both my 8800's do it
8800 GTX/ULTRA? I've got a GTX @ ULTRA speeds, and it squeals a lot. I brought a GTX 280 a while ago to get away from that,( + more performance) and look where i am. edit: The card for some reason didn't get enough power, therefore it squealed, i remember now.. Maybe it was the PCIE power, duno.
My 8800GT squeals when no PCI-e power plug is inserted. Yours may be broken/doesn't work/not enough power
My 8800GT squeals when no PCI-e power plug is inserted. Yours may be broken/doesn't work/not enough power
I think one of my pins was broken on my 8800 GTX, probably why, but with my new PSU (Corsair 1000HX) that should not be the cause.

Lol it squeals. Hilarious. On a serious note, it MAY be leaky capacitors. My friend had capacitor rot on his old mobo and whenever one of them was leaky, it made a sound. not necessarily a squeaking sound, but it was a sound.
my arse occasionally makes a sound that's not necessarily squeaking, doesn't mean it's relevant Isn't there a thing where your card emits a noise to tell you it's not getting enough power? this could explain solving it with changing/swapping PCI-E power cables @OP what's your current PSU also I highly doubt you need a 1000W PSU
Probably this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139007

Ill swap cables. [editline]12:39AM[/editline]
Probably this. don't run your fans at 100%
running them at 100% burns them out and will only cause more issues, squealing is most likely a power issue: you are running a hxc card. The fix, test with a better power supply (any friends??), if the fans are a heating problem: look into modding the cooler with a third-party cooler (zalman?) Why it is the power: The more work a graphics card does, the more power it will consume. So if you do not have ample power during higher periods of usage, the whining noise occurs (as if u leave off the plug, mine do that) OP, what is your current PSU?
I run my cards at 90% 24/7 for the past 2 years, no problems yet Would you rather a card dies or a cheap GPU fan?
To each their own. It is simply known as a bad idea to run ur shit that high all the time. Besides, I think power is the issue here anyway.

I didn't mean to say i used it 24/7.
[b]GUYS/b] His PSU is a 1000W Corsair. That's not the issue.
I tried it in a few other systems with different PSUs, it all squeals. I guess its the card. I'll have to deal with it. :crying: :Dawkins102:
