About as much as Mountain Dew has to do with Call of Duty, we suppose, and at least this cross-promotion promotes dental hygiene products instead of sugar intake. It’s also better than SimCity’s free Nissan Leaf Charging station, which adds happiness while draining zero resources, putting the advertising before the gameplay. Still, this makes me a bit queasy. There’s plenty of precedent for this kind of marketing, and I don’t have a universally sour reaction to it, but adding more promotional buildings now doesn’t improve the narrative of SimCity’s launch and early days. It makes it look like a bin to stuff marketing into, and though we know there’s more to it, what it looks like is what our guts react to. Right now, mine is trying to digest a big glob of fluoride. Fuck off, EA Anything to get money, HUH?
Fuck off, EA Anything to get money, HUH?
hey at least activision had the COD + mountain dew thing Cod players is to mt. dew as SIMS players are to toothpaste?????
Halo has Doritos Call of Duty has Mountain Dew Sim City does Toothpaste. Wonder what it would be for other games. Maybe Cheap Carnie food for Bioshock Infinite.
Simcity is just the gift that keeps on giving, isn't it?
It's healthier than Mountain Dew I guess, I don't really get why anyone would be angry about this though. What harm can be done from them doing something like this?
I like how the 360 and PS3 are there even though Simcity is for none of those platforms
It's healthier than Mountain Dew I guess, I don't really get why anyone would be angry about this though.
Halo has Doritos Call of Duty has Mountain Dew Sim City does Toothpaste. Wonder what it would be for other games. Maybe Cheap Carnie food for Bioshock Infinite.
battlefield 3 domestos promotion purge the commies from america and your toilet bowl
I'll throw EA a bone here this time around. At least it is healthy. Not a fan of promotional stuff in any game but as long as it isn't in your face then I guess it'd be okay. It's when they flash an advertisement on your screen every 10 minutes or so that i'll start throwing shit at them.
Truth; even though it's for a useful cosmetic I don't fucking care. EA deserves to die horribly whatever they do. Or more accurately the higher-ups deserve to get turned into scatter-brained hobos, whilst the devs beneath them can find new jobs or found new studios.
I like how the 360 and PS3 are there even though Simcity is for none of those platforms
those are the contest prizes
why do you guys even care holy shit it's a fucking ad on toothpaste
This is as silly as any other marketing gimmick but the fact that it's toothpaste is kinda cool.
Simcity is a funny game
why do you guys even care holy shit it's a fucking ad on toothpaste
I'd rather them fix my broken game sooner than try and squeeze another dime and put advertisements in my fucking game.
why do you guys even care holy shit it's a fucking ad on toothpaste
EA SimCity Anything with both of those is typically Sensationalist as fuck
I'd rather them fix my broken game sooner than try and squeeze another dime and put advertisements in my fucking game.
Did you even read the article?
Buy specially marked Crest or Oral-B products in the US and you’ll earn a code to unlock SimCity’s Attractions Set, a selection of five tourist-attracting buildings including “Giant Garden Gnome,” “Dolly the Dinosaur,” “Llarry the Llama,” “MaxisMan Statue,” and “the World’s Largest Ball of Twine.”
None of these sound like any sort of direct or intrusive advertising structures into the game from the titles of it. It looks like you just unlock a selection of generic buildings for inserting a goddamn code. I would agree with the nissan car charger station (though it was like one really tinyass building like one person probably made), but this doesn't appear to be like that.
I honestly wouldn't put it past that after all they've done thus far.
The fact they're actually advertising and selling DLC on toothpaste is just too far
So they put a code to unlock some items in simcity. Whoopdydoo. I didn't see anyone complaining when you could get battlefield dog tags from dr pepper soda tops and other shit for other EA games. I'm just not getting this whole "outcry" shit that happens every goddamn time SOMETHING happens like this.

looks like pc gamer also jumped the gun and didn't even read what they were reporting on
Also, why are SimCity boxes sitting next to a PS3 and Xbox 360 in Crest’s promotional image?
gee, i wonder why? maybe because sim city is a prize you can win, in addition to the consoles and the TV? i added handy arrows to point out the prizes because apparently them being more than a nanometer away from the text makes them impossible to find
What does toothpaste have anything to do with SimCity or video games in general? At least Doritos and Mountain Dew are junk foods that teenagers have an interest in.
if you cant see the harm that crass commercialisation will do to games then its not worth explaining tbh
You just hate innovation, I personally can't wait to play Sim ExxonMobil Refinery and the Elder Scrolls 6: Quest of the Monster Energy Drink
