BBC Radio1 will not play 'Ding Dong!' in full, regardless of chart position

The Wizard of Oz song at the centre of an anti-Margaret Thatcher campaign will not be played in full on the Official Chart Show.
Speaking to Radio 1 Newsbeat, Mr Cooper said: "The decision I have made is not I am not going to play it in full but that I will play a clip of it in a news environment.
"When I say a news environment, that is a news reader telling you about the fact that this record has reached a certain place in the chart and here is a clip of that track.

Regardless of the glaringly obvious political aspect, I'm glad it's not being played in full because it's shit.
music opinion time
"this song is not good!"
"it is good because i like it"
"well it is not good because i dont like it!"
Fine by me, it's just an annoying song anyway.
I'm fine with that. People are just buying it to be dickheads, not because they genuinely want to hear it.
Oh thank god they're not playing it, it's so damn cruel. I didn't realize how many people in my country were complete shitheads.
But capitalism has spoken, I doubt Thatcher would have approved of a state organ interfering with and censoring the outcome of a free market prcess
See the thing is, the BBC is supposed to be impartial. They're stuck between a rock and a hard place. Playing the song is, arguably, their job, they have to play it because it's at the top of the charts, but, of course, that could offend people. By not playing it, it could be interpreted as them taking a side in politics, which obviously goes against having to be neutral.
The BBC is in a shitty position, either way they're screwed.

I take it you're a Southerner.
I don't mind if they play it or not, I only see it as a bit of fun but picketing her funeral is way over the mark.
They're still going to play it though, just shortened. It's only 52 seconds and no one cares to listen to the actual song.

To be fair, the purpose of playing the stuff at the top of the charts is to play stuff the most people want to hear. In this case, nobody really wants to hear the song. It wouldn't be that hard to argue themselves out of, but it still sucks for them yeah.
Probably for the best, really.
They refused to play Ant and Dec when they were at number 1, they probably played it during the charts once and that was it
This is one of the more ridiculous bandwagons people have jumped on recently. Yes, Thatcher made life very difficult for a lot of people but honestly, there's no reason to go and act so childishly just because she's dead now. What's the point in wasting good energy on hate when there are other thnigs we could be doing with our time, things that might make a difference, like making Iain Duncan Smith live on £53 a week, because the man really needs a reality check.
Jesus, i feel bad for her kids, having a bunch of cunts celebrating their mothers death.
Just seen Ben Cooper explaining his reasoning behind only playing a few seconds of the song, and the presenter seems desperate to try and get Radio One to play the full song. I wish the news channel was more like their website: impartial.

This isn't just some recent Tumblr trend or something, people have really hated her for some time.

They don't live in the UK so they're probably not hearing much of it, besides, many people loved her, look at the funeral she's getting

the bbc's always in a shitty position, they can't do anything without getting attacked by both wings
The BBC have already been attacked for being 'too negative' about her

aye, saw that on question time last night.
some of the panel were convinced that the bbc is reporting on this radio 1 thing to try and get it up to the top of the charts
after all this discussion nobody asked: who listens to the radio 1 anyway?
Not suprised, the didn't play 'God Save the Queen' by the Sex Pistols when that went to number 1.
But really I still think they should, bad taste or not the chart reflects what was most popular that week and all too often it seems as though they are trying to interfere with it in some way or another. But that just may be my paranoia kicking in again.

I don't know, how many people work in Radio 1?
No one really wants to hear the song and really it's just a political statement - a very callous one, at that. The BBC isn't allowed to be political, therefore broadcasting what is contextually a political song is beyond their remit.
Radio 1 has 11.1m listeners per week, Radio 2 15.1m, both the most popular stations in the UK
Don't really care. It doesn't change the fact its in the charts.

That matters a lot since 10m also voted Conservative.
