i want to build a gaming pc for $500. preferably intel processor, no OS needed (my friend has got a copy). no monitor, no extra stuff. i don't even need a HD motherboard. i just need to run GTA4 with minimal lag, and run portal 2 when it comes out. and maybe the sims 3. i just don't know how to do all that compatibility stuff, and thats where you awesome dudes come in. THANKS!
More info please. And you're not going to play GTA4 smooth on a 500$ PC.
Aren't there any GTA4 performance configs?
Aren't there any GTA4 performance configs?
Sorry, I forgot "On decent settings". And what the fuck do you mean with HD motherboard? [editline]5th December 2010[/editline] And what are you posting from right now? If it's not a laptop, maybe you can reuse something.
i don't even need a HD motherboard.
What.
HD motherboard like HDMI or HD or whatever. i just don't need blu-ray mega graphics. and i cant "deal with what i got" or "reuse something", because i have a mac.
HD motherboard like HDMI or HD or whatever. i just don't need blu-ray mega graphics. and i cant "deal with what i got" or "reuse something", because i have a mac.
Fair enough, I'm going to throw something together, it's going to be an AMD build, though.
ok, but isn't AMD weird with steam games or something?
ok, but isn't AMD weird with steam games or something?
Nope. Where did you hear that?
I don't really like that DIY kit, as it contains a last-generation CPU and a generic PSU.
Last generation CPU? Dude, If you have a good CPU like this one, and a smokin graphics card like the 4850, or 5000 series, It runs everything smoothly, GTA 4 on Max, Black ops on max, and I can personally vouch since I have a similar build to the one hacksore posted except I have a 512mb ATi Radeon 4850. Plus this is way under his budget which I'm sure is a plus. Also, What's wrong with a generic PSU? You don't really need a fancy ass branded PSU as long as this one runs your graphics and everything smoothly. Edit: With the same build Hacksore posted, except with a 512mb ATi Radeon 4850, I ran GTA 4 on max with constant 50-60 fps. GTA 4 isnt really that demanding when you have a quad core and a nice GPU.. lol

So good job guys on making an organized list on who not to listen to. Theres nothing better than organized fools. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] And just for a reference, the original Phenoms are absolutely horrible compared to better/cheaper CPUs. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] And GTA IV is very demanding. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] And the 4850 is actually a low-end gaming card. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] Also that CPU cooler sucks, get a Scythe SCMG-2100 or a Hyper 212+. Also the GPU sucks. Get a 5750 or 4850 for the same price. Also a Samsung Spingpoint F3 is worth $5 more as far as HDDs go. You can't beat it for the price. Also he doesn't need 4GBs of DDR2. 2GBs is fine. I never use more than 2GBs while playing games like Far Cry 2, Source, or Crysis. And for the overall budget of that PC he can get a much, much, much. Much. Nicer case. [editline]6th December 2010[/editline] Fuckin' automerge to its full extent.

I got two options for you. First one is a little less than $500, but gives you more storage, but less GPU power. http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=10576769 Second one, is slightly over $500. It comes to $515 with shipping but is far worth it because you get a nicer case and more GPU power. https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=10585109
yeah, but i really only have $500. how much over is this?
32$. Without shipping. So if you can't afford it, I really recommend you first try to see if you can cut here. Reuse an old HDD and optical drive. And maybe a cheaper case.
