Should it be made illegal for anyone 13 or older to trick-or-treat? Should teenagers and adults not be allowed to do it? I think it's definitely weird for a teenager or adult to go trick-or-treating (unless they are taking their kids/siblings), but I don't think it should be a crime.
The City of Belleville is getting national attention again for having restrictions on trick-or-treaters. The story was even featured on the Today Show this week. But in the last two years of banning anyone over the age of 14 from trick-or-treating, is it really working?
Imagine a gory, scary mask showing up at your door! On a pint sized body: not so scary. But someone bigger...
Belleville parent Ken Walker said, "He wants to be a gangster, wants to carry a mask and a gun, and told him he probably won't be able to do that."
Not for much longer anyway, Walker's son Daniel is 12-years old. His parents tell him he only has a couple of trick-or-treating years left. In Belleville, it's the law.
"Sometimes you got the late, 9pm, 9:30, 10 o'clock knocks at the door. The high school kids, the college-age kids, going out terrorizing people," said Belleville Police Captain Don Sax.
So as Sax explains: as of three years ago, it's against the law for anyone over the age of 14 to trick-or-treat in Belleville. But in that time, police have never issued even one citation.
"We haven't had any complaints or any violations that have come up, so there have not been any reason to enforce it or make an arrest," said Captain Sax.
17-year old Nathan and buddy Codie aren't complaining about that. As long as no one complains, they're going to go trick-or-treating in Belleville, just as they've done every year since the law said no.
"Who says you have to be a certain age to go trick-or-treating. It's just stupid," said Nathan.
"I like dressing up, like having fun one day out of the year," said Codie.
They both say they don't wear scary costumes, and they're in charge of taking their little brothers and sisters trick-or-treating
"One's eight and the other one's five," said Nathan.
Belleville Police say they don't patrol looking for over-aged trick-or-treaters. But they will respond and enforce the law if anyone calls complaining. They believe having the law keeps many families from allowing their high schoolers to go trick-or-treating.
i had a greate time trick or treating with my dad when i was 7 , parents aloud or not?
How is it weird for teens and adults to go trick or treating? They come up with the best costumes.
That's just stupid. There's no reason to prevent anyone over 13 to trick-or-treat.
Yes
I wouldn't mind. Some teens could be dangerous in the dark(the assholes and whatnot), but most are usually pretty content with just scaring the living fuck out of kids now and then. Adults are the same but with way less jerks.

It's just weird having a teen/adult knock on your door and ask you for candy.

Who the fuck cares?
Most people get bored of trick or treating by 13 or 14anyway.
If you ban it, people will do it just to "be a rebel"

Adult yeah teen no
Irrational fear of masked gunmen.
I don't think I'll ever want to give kids candy for halloween at my house, but if I did I'd want to make some cool system where the candy falls out of a chute and I don't even have to open my door.
I think it falls on the responsibility of the people giving out candy to decide who they are and who they aren't going to give it too
In-fact I've had this dream to make everything in my house as an adult, be controlled from my computer.
popup that someone rang the doorbell
click drop candy

It's weird for anybody to knock on your door and ask you for candy. Age doesn't matter.

Not really.
Terrorizing people by... asking for candy. Of course!
i'm 15 and i might be trick-or-treating this year

Winner.
Why would it be weird for adults and teens to ask for candy ? It's a tradition on the holiday, and everybody loves candy
Is that legal? Doesn't that infringe on freedom to assemble? Only the home owners can do that, not the state.

Maybe a curfew, but I don't really agree with those either.
I'm getting people that are 17+ knocking on my door already with sheets over their heads. It's not even fucking halloween, why do they start 2-3 days early.
I'm 19 and I've never trick or treated.
I do however steal the sweets my parents buy trick or treaters.
If a teenager has absolutely no plans for Halloween except to get free candy, let the poor guy get it. :P That kind of person isn't exactly going to be the type to break stuff and be stupid. Those are the types that are gonna go to parties and such.
Teenagers trick-or-treat all the time around these parts.
I'd rather go to the store and buy some for myself than dressing up asking others.
Absolutely not.
We don't celebrate Halloween in Poland, so I'm neutral.
If you don't want to give them candy, don't. It's just stupid to make it illegal.
The fuck is happening? Why the fuck are we even CONSIDERING making shit like this illegal? Fuck sakes, did we fall upon the time of idiotic soccer moms ruling the fucking world?
last time I trick or treated was I when I was 15, nothing wrong with wanting free candy
