My friend is building a brand new computer with a budget of 1700 bucks. The problem is, his old rig was damn ancient - CRT screen, white plastic speakers, ball mouse, you catch my drift. Please help me help him get something proper for the huge amount of cash! We need: -a screen -mouse+keyboard -the build (:downs:) -case
US or canada? Im presuming a 5870(970 if you push it) i5 4gb ram 20inch screen build?
US or canada? And there's no point in getting a 5870 if all it's doing is supporting a 20". [editline]08:29PM[/editline] Motherboard Asus P6T SE CPU Core i7 920 GPU Asus HD5850 RAM 6GB DDR3 OCZ, 1600MHz Case Antec 300 HDD WD 1TB Caviar Black PSU Corsair 750w I picked an i7 920 because I'm not up to date on the i5's and shit, someone else probably knows better. I'm also not 100% sure about the Caviar Black. I picked a G15 and G9 for your keyboard + mouse, those are my personal recommendations but it's up to your friend to decide one what he likes the look of. Picked an Asus 24" monitor because I read some good reviews about it, but I've never been good at picking monitors. I've always went for the best-priced Dell monitor myself. Total comes to around $1,603 (with MIR), before shipping, so you have some elbow room. Newegg:

Go with something that will stress the card a little.
1080 on a 27 in monitor. At that size at least get 1200.
You put triple channel with a core i5.....
1080 on a 27 in monitor. At that size at least get 1200.
Also 2 ide hard drives. :wtf:
A back-lit keyboard and one of those overpriced macro gaming mice.
1080 on a 27 in monitor. At that size at least get 1200.
I have an older monitor in a closet. 1600x1200 and 18 inches.
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=10199474 How lucky, this one applies to you too. If you feel comfortable with sli, you can take out the 5870 and add 2 5770s or 4890s. You might even have budget for 2 5850s. The samsung is a very expensive monitor, but it is the best. You can switch out for a cheaper acer and save money. Aftermarket cooler is not necessary if you don't want to push the i5. If you do get the dark knight, you will need thermal paste.
I have an older monitor in a closet. 1600x1200 and 18 inches.
Holy crap that would hurt my eyes.
Holy crap that would hurt my eyes.
I like it. I would use it along with my Sony 24" but the pixel density is so much different.
I like it. I would use it along with my Sony 24" but the pixel density is so much different.
Yeah. I would like to find one super high pixel density crt just for the heck of it.

Plus the 212+ is quieter. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065&cm_re=hyper_212%2b-_-35-103-065-_-Product Also, go with a Antec P1xx series case. They are very classy. Maybe a P183? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129061&Tpk=P183

Its super easy and clean to build with. Dust filters block airflow over time, so you have to clean them. Its a lot easier to dust inside your case than to take out the dust filters and clean them. the p183 only has 2 external front USB ports, meaning you won't be taking advantage of the second USB port on the p55ud4p. HAF 932 is black. P183 is gray.
