• World War Z map: where are you?

READ THE ENTIRE FUCKING POST BEFORE ASKING ABOUT THE MAP DAMNIT. So what I'm going to present today is a map I made of World War Z, with the help of a few friends. To those who haven't read World War Z, I direct you here for basic information and Here for a more detailed explanation. The map basically represents the world on the eve of January 7, 2020, when the UN and its member nations are ready to go on the offensive against the undead: the Honolulu Conference, 7 years after the Great Panic. Color key: Yellow: Safety zones. The zones established after the Redeker Plan was established (again, refer to links above). However, just because you're in a safe zone doesn't mean you can sit back and sip on martini. On the contrary, most existing safe zones were throbbing with outbreaks. An example is the US West Coast, which wasn't secured for quite a period of time. Hell, maybe you wouldn't succumb to zombies: maybe you'd get caught up in the Great Panic in June 2013. Gray: Infested zones. These zones will probably have at least 10-100 zombies, but this color is a bit too broad: if you're within a few hundred miles of a major city I can guarantee you'll be surrounded by thousands, maybe millions of zombies. Just because an entire country (like Brazil or Japan) is completely overrun doesn't mean their government has dissolved. They, and their military and any civilians who would qualify for the Redeker Plan, would rebuild in that country until the Honolulu Conference, where they go on the offensive either alone or with the support of the country that sheltered them. A good example is Canada and Mexico. Although both have a safe zone, both countries were too weak to take on their infestations by themselves, so a deal was struck with the U.S.: the Canucks and Mexicans keep the U.S. borders secure, and when the continental U.S. was secured then the American military would help its neighbors. Black: Megaswarms. Numbering in the millions at the very least. If you're still holed up near or in these areas, you better have a damned good zombie plan. Although being in this area isn't a death sentence you'll need to use every resource you got to survive. One slip-up, and the undead will crash through your door, flooding your house, and consuming every human inside. White: North Korea. No one really knows what happened to the North Koreans: every one of them literally just vanished, presumably underground. Whatever is waiting down there in subterranean North Korea---a stubborn North Korean military force or 23 million zombies---no country neither has the resources nor the willpower to find out. Common questions you'll probably ask: Q: Did you really take the time to make this? A: Yep. Q: Are those the exact safe zones depicted in the book? A: They're a combination of estimates based off of natural boundaries and what is hinted at or expressed in the book. Q: What happened to Europe's borders? Why is Tibet independent? Why does Russia have more territory? A: Because Europe has a lot of borders, and because at the end of the war Europe is more or less a country, the borders are exempt. Those of you wondering if you survived in that central safe zone, I can tell you that safe zone consists of Switzerland, eastern France, southern Germany, northern Italy, and western Austria. Tibet became independent after the war. Russia became the "Holy Russian Empire" and absorbed many of its former Soviet republics. Ukraine seems next. If you really want to find out more about what happened to your country, refer to the links above. Q: Goddamnit, why is Madagascar clean? They shouldn't be clean! (Pandemic 2 reference) A: Madagascar was probably initially infected, but the government more than likely cleared out the infestations, the refugees probably streaming towards northern Africa. Q: What type of zombies are these? Slow? Fast? Viral? Magical? A: Refer to the links above. Q: Do you think you'll get a lot of "Dumb" ratings on this thread? A: You bet your sorry ass I do.
Im in Michigan. It'll all be fat, ugly zombies.
So what do we do with this?
I'm in an infected zone.
Fuck I'm infected
I'm in Washington. and Fuck, I don't wanna be in a safezone. I want to run over zombies god damnit
I'm in the black zone. Dunna nunna nunna nunna
The megaswarm locations make no sense whatsoever. 'Oh hey, I'm going to put a megaswarm in the middle of the Sahara and into the deepest parts of the Congo just for shits and giggles!' (I'm directing this at the author of World War Z, not the OP. The OP had nothing to do with the zone placements.)
I'm boned. Unless barreling through zombies with a semi works then i'm boned.
If I can get to BC from Ontario then I'm good. :D
Safe. California wins again :smug:
I live pretty much in front of New York City, across the river. I don't believe it wouldn't be a megaswarm.
The locations of those megaswarms make no sense, why is the one in the united states dead center in the country? wouldn't somewhere like LA or New York make more sense to have a megaswarm?
You know when you're a loser when you make this shit. Kid, stop wasting time, and go outside. (User was banned for this post ("Why reply if you think it's shit?" - mm3guy))
Ill be in NYC but ill survive because I'm a fucking pro
I am safe. West Canada FTW.
I spot a face on the map.
I'm in Sacramento, California, so there'd probably be outbreaks here with its proximity to SF. Plus, most Sacramentans seem to have their heads up their asses most of the time. But I'm a country boy from NorCal (Sacramento is NOT Northern California), with a protective dog, a rifle, two pistols, and a shotgun. Plus, I'm pretty vigilant when it comes to zombies. I think I might be OK if I can get up into the Sierra Mountains, which is about 40 miles East of here. BTW, WWZ if fucking awesome. The book rocks, and the audio is almost as good (you should see who does the voice acting for it!).
Save zone. California FTW.
All of Australia besides Tasmania? Come on, zombies don't bloody survive wandered around Ayer's Rock. You need to work on your map more.
I'm right in the middle of that big black spot in the US. Don't know why the hell it's there though.
Damn, Georgia Why does the south always miss out :saddowns:
All of Australia besides Tasmania? Come on, zombies don't bloody survive wandered around Ayer's Rock. You need to work on your map more.
Zombies would actually thrive much longer in hot arid regions. Aka most of australia and the sahara.
You know when you're a loser when you make this shit. Kid, stop wasting time, and go outside.
You know you have no life when you have no sense of humor or creativity. Either contribute to the thread or don't. To those wondering why there's mega-swarms in the Great Plains: because the zombies followed the steady stream of refugees going either north or west. A lot of people reanimated while travelling, and thus the Great Plains being largely controlled by huge swarms. In central Africa, it would probably be something to a similar effect, although the zombies in the Congo won't last as long as those in the Sahara. Central Asia, same deal. At least, that's my explanation. If you want the real explanation, ask Max Brooks himself.
How the hell would there be "Megaswarms" in the Central United states? The population in that area isn't even close to the population on the coast.
How exactly are there mega infestations in the mountains? How the fuck did millions of zombies end up in the rockies?
Safe Zone!
yay i'm safe in cali. time to grow some weed while everyone's fighting the zombies.
I'm in a safe zone. :) Pills, anyone?
I like how irelands safe. I'm coo then.
