COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- A Columbus police officer was rushed to the hospital after officials say he cut his mouth after biting into a sandwich, which contained several shards of glass from a restaurant on East Long Street Monday afternoon.
The officer was taken to Grant Medical Center around 3 p.m. where he's being held overnight. The officer is expected to be okay according to investigators.
Police say the officer bit into the sandwich and felt what was a grisly texture as well as a crunching sound. When he looked into the sandwich, he saw the glass. When he checked his mouth, he saw it was bleeding.
The restaurant was subsequently shut down as assault squad investigators conducted interviews.
Detectives said it's not clear whether the incident was accidental or intentional.

The officer's identity and the restaurant's name are being withheld as Columbus police investigate.
I sincerely hope it wasn't some dumbass employee who was trying to push his anti-police agenda that did this.
That's a fucked thing to do, Jesus. If this was intentional then I hope those responsible are charged.
i don't see how someone's sandwich can just accidentally have broken glass in it

I bet it was. Getting glass in someones food is pretty rare, getting glass in someones food who just happens to be in uniform...common now.
Jesus christ, that's terrifying. At least he's seemingly okay.
It's hard to believe it was due to negligence, but if it was, well, I guess that's why criminal negligence is a thing.

If it was an accident/nobody could tell, I don't think charges should be filed.

How does glass accidentally get into a sandwich? Why would glass just be hanging around a kitchen? drink glasses are one thing, but I'm sure the cop would've noticed one of those in his meal.

at what point during sandwich making can broken glass just happen to fall in the sandwich without anyone noticing
Glass shards in food can almost always be chalked up to malicious intent, you have to be a retarded cook to not notice/break glass over food and do nothing about it.

This is not a coincidence. This was deliberate. Even it was a coincidence the place would be under some heavy health and food code violations.

I kinda hope it is because if glass just accidentally finding its way into your sandwich in a restaurant is a thing that can happen I'd be a lot more worried.
Hope the cop either sues the employee or the restaurant for everything they have. Send a clear message to these jerks that you can't get away with stuff like this.

I hope it was... otherwise that would mean someone somewhere is making sandwiches in a way that accidentally could make them have glass in them...
Glass shards are fucked in food/drink. I was in Bali recently and I ordered a beer, took a sip and noticed something crunch against my teeth. Looked at the at the glass and there was a shard hanging off it. I think the server opened it awkwardly and didn't notice the break.
Even those small chips cut up my cheeks. Glass ain't no joke.

Of course he is. Something like this, you would own the place after the courts were through with them.

Which is super unfortunate if the owner genuinely didn't have anything to do with it. Most likely the fault of some racist employee who drank a bit too much of the BLM koolaide.

Woo wild accusations.

I don't think we can call the racism card yet - we don't know nearly enough details.
You don't accidentally get glass into a sandwich like that.
The place should be turned inside out to find whoever is pathetic enough to do something as dumb as this and make sure they'll never work a job involving food ever again
I'm not saying it's an accident, I'm saying IF it's an accident then no charges should be filed.

It's a guess, and based on the current state of things, it will probably pan out. Just like any time something bad happens in France lately, you can pretty much assume it was a terrorist.
Not always going to be right, sure, but where's the fun in not speculating or making assumptions? This place has turned awfully saccharine. Gone are the days of hilarious puns and people stating unpopular opinions without getting chewed out. Might as well not post anything controversial at all if it's always the same hive mind, pussified response of "but we have no proof so let's not talk about what ifs."
It has gotten to the point where I can open a thread and already know what I'm going to read from the replies. It's like everyone is a clone of each other, posting the same damn thing. Oh this is so tragic, but we'll wait for the facts instead of speculating, blah blah blah. Where are the people saying blasphemous, disagreeable things? I want to feel stirred up inside, not bored to death by overly PC sameness.
It's the same reason Fox News comments can be so damn interesting. It's jam packed full of ignorance and it's brilliant.

The restaurant should be able to hand those damage claims right over to the employee in that case, though unfortunately they probably wouldn't have enough money.

Why not? Even if it was an accident that pretty damn negligent.
