• Jailbreaking NEW 3GS Phones.

This is quite interesting. [release]iClarified reports that Apple has apparently recently made a slight update to its shipping iPhone 3GS models, deploying an updated boot ROM that does not allow the exploit typically used to jailbreak the devices to be employed. While previous iPhone hardware and software updates have temporarily squashed jailbreaking tools, this apparently marks the first time that Apple has quietly changed the boot ROM on devices in production to address the issue. Jailbreaking iPhones and iPod touches allows them to run applications and access features that have not been authorized by Apple, and has also allowed users to pirate iPhone applications. Recent data from mobile advertising firm Pinch Media reveals that it has seen nearly four million jailbroken devices on its ad network, with 38% of those using at least one pirated application. Among iPhone applications that have been cracked and made available for pirating, Pinch Media notes that about a third of the total installations of those applications are pirated copies. I give it a week before somebody finds a way to jailbreak them.
Someone should get one of these new devices over to the Dev Team, stat.
I don't see why apple can't just let people do what they want with iPhones. I can understand that they want profit from the app store and such, but really I think the money is in what the consumer wants.

Everyone would just use Installous to get the applications for free.

I bought mine on the morning it was released, i should be in the clear.
[QUOTE=j00g0t0wnd;17838870]If Apple let people freely jailbreak, nobody would bother with the Appstore anymore. No matter how much I wax lyrical about the benefits of jailbreaking, my friends do not want to do it because of their fear of it going tits up. Palm have started allowing people to install applications without their permission on the Pre, which is something that I feel apple should also be doing. Most people don't jailbreak for piracy, they jailbreak because apple are anal fuckwads and love vendor lock in. I wouldn't have bought my ipod touch if I couldn't jailbreak it, simply because it's a piece of shit without the ability to do whatever you like with it.

Most consumers are able to, but are turned off by how 'risky' it seems because: a pretty small percentage uses JB, which scares them, and JB methods are somewhat difficult. If Apple let people fuck about, then hacking the devices would be so much easier, and people would have unlocked iPhones and use non-supported carriers as well. People who are afraid of jailbreak are fucking retarded. It's not possible to brick an iPhone anyway, so I don't see why they couldn't try. However, I do agree that Apple are a bunch of assholes. First, they don't get it. The iPhone/iPod touch sounds like a cheap 20 dollar mp3 player. The equalizer settings are fucking laughably horrid and there is no bass whatsoever with earphones. For fuck's sakes, Apple, it's supposed to be a role model for other players on the market, at least have a custom equalizer. As for the lack of themes, I can understand why they decided to do that for the first generation processor devices, as putting a simple background could make performance much worse. Anyway, we can easily jailbreak now with blackra1n. Keeping JB exclusive to a small portion of the consumers is probably good because then there would be less apps that are worth money on Cydia.
Most people won't jailbreak it because they think you have to be a genius to do it. Or never herd of it. It's the same with torrenting.
fuck apple, i want goddamned rockbox on my motherfucking nano!!!!!
