Good they're finally fixing the things that should have been. This may yet convince me to return, but there's no denying the overall letdown the game still is.
So uh... Thanks for telling us what Adventure Mode actually is, Shack.

Diablo 3 is leaps and bounds better than it was six months after release. Them telling Jay Willson to go blow himself was probably the best idea they've ever had because this new guy seems to actually know what he's doing. I hopped back on to see the Loot 2.0 nonsense and the game is pretty legit fun now.
Non-Linearity, Loot.
Finally

If it just had the original concept for the rune system, I think it would be amazing.

What was it?

Skill runes came in drops, and in tiers. You could have a magic missle skill, which fired bolts of magic, and find a Tier 7 split shot rune to put in it, which now makes you fire 8 magic missiles.
Tier 1 would be 1 extra missile, 2 would be 2 extra missiles, etc.
Eventually they scrapped this idea and simply made skill "runes" simple additions to the skills themselves.

From the greyed out option in the game menu, its a random assortment of enemies and rifts that open to unique levels while you play.
so
what is adventure mode
Also still not really a fan of being forced to beat the game several times just to get to the actual good content and good difficulty modes.

That's been like this like forever in action roleplaying games.

Sounds like Path of Exile, which is fun but also a massive pain in the ass if you're looking for a specific skill gem. It's an...ok system I guess. Personally I like Diablo 3's rune system as it is now because you can actually switch runes in the middle of farming runs and mess with skills on the fly.
I'm really enjoying Diablo III after the 2.0 patch.
I started playing again with the 2.0 patch, now I can't wait to get home from work everyday and play. It's so fun.

Well not that far back original. I think the latest before they scrapped it was the same runes effects they have now, but the runes could also have random bonuses. The idea sounded so amazing to me when it first was announced though, being able to experiment and see all the ways your skill could be modified.

Basically there's no story at all, and you can travel all around the map, and certain places have little bounty hunt mini quests.
