I wonder if the name has anything to do with Aeon of Strife.
looks like LoL with better graphics hell ill check it out it's free to play anyway
yeah no dota2 master race
I'm disappointed in S2. I was just talking about how awesome Savage 1 was, how Savage 2 was almost as good but unfinished and how I'd love to see another Savage game. Then...this.

Also I wonder what this means for HoN. I haven't played it in quite awhile but it was always my favorite MOBA.

I used to play HoN and had loads of fun, it being the first MOBA I have ever played, buying it still in beta, long before it went F2P. Later on, I was usually floating between 1600-1700 MMR, playing always with 2-4 people I only ever really communicated with due to the game, I wouldn't call them big friends, more of good and desirable teammates. HoN slowly got old and I stopped playing it, doing other stuff. Eventually, I tried Dota 2, and eventually began playing it, because I had friends who wanted me to play it with them. I never stopped feeling like I downgraded. HoN always felt better in terms of smoothness of networking, interface, but also balance, with practically weekly patches which rebalanced two dozen heroes, compared to the Dota's sluggish patch pace which often feels like the gameplay doesn't matter at all. Gritting my teeth the entire way, racking up over 600 Dota 2 matches, I just wish HoN was the victor and didn't succumb to Valve's fame and resources. I have no idea what HoN is like right now, but I always remembered it as a better game. This new game definitely sounds interesting enough, even tho I am not very keen of the "persistent" features, and would prefer a more bare and "harsh" gameplay, just as long as it's kept well balanced. Still, I remember S2 games as a dev who's well involved in the community and cares, doing a plenty of hard work while never asking for too much in return. An impression IceFrog and Valve's Dota team never managed to create in me.
Unless it's gonna have an amazing F2P model like HoN's, I won't even bother. I have a feeling it's gonna be like LoL's

Used to play HoN a lot in 09-11 till I got bored, was fun. It is still popular now though has around 150k active players at peak.
The graphics are pretty. I'm going to give this a shot because I really like MOBAs.
she looks a little bit too much like miss fortune.
It kinda looked like Monkey Island good a sec.
So they're giving up on HoN or are they gonna update both differently ?
oh hey another moba
she looks a little bit too much like miss fortune.
Female pirate, must be a rip off even though they have different clothes and hair colors!!1! Amun-ra was an op piece of shit, Gemini, Monkey King, etc. then get nerfed after they get free, coincidence? I don't think so, to be honest they didn't do anything original they just stole an idea and remodeled/named it. Some of their heroes were good before Hon 2.0, Balphagore, Electrician but once they tried to come up with their own ideas it started going down hill. If you think their smoothness of networking is good thats a joke, they got DDOS'd for 2 weeks straight and couldn't do a thing about it and the login servers frequently went down. As for the sluggish gameplay? HoN catered to the EM playerbase. S2 caring about the community is a joke with, employees left in disgust as well due to the management of the company as well as the community contributors, you can ask devon_wargod he plays Dota 2 and posts in the mega thread now and left after tons of drama in the community
The art style of this game looks a lot similar to that of LoL's. I guess the rumors of S2 trying to make HoN more like LoL wasn't bullshit. It looks like S2 thinks that the only way for them to become successful again is to imitate LoL.
I don't think so, to be honest they didn't do anything original they just stole an idea and remodeled/named it.
This works against Valve and Riot since they both stole ideas too. Riot copied a lot of hero ideas, and Valve has remade the original. If you're going to play the dota copycat card, you can't just blame one company.

Man, S2 used to be fantastic devs before they made HoN... and before they made Savage 2 F2P but P2W. What happened? :(
Also is it just me or does proclaiming your game to be a second generation moba sound a bit conceited?
Quoting from my previous response to this:
They still never launched custom maps for HoN which was a promised feature. Honestly, DOTA & MOBAs only exists because Warcraft 3 had custom maps. If you want to make a game that sells insanely well, and retains a fanbase of tens of thousands for 8+ years continuously - make something as easily-moddable and insanely open as WC3 was, with their custom maps feature. I'm honestly surprised no-ones done it yet, everyone's too concerned with making turdy MOBAs, to look at the origins of where they came from, and see the wealth of original ideas that came alongside them, and open that up for people too. If Valve or someone did it, I doubt I'd play many other games after that. If I did, I'd be sure to return to Dota2 custom games every few months (like I have with WC3 for the past 6 years, unfortunately now it's been ruined by botters).

Valve has remade the original.
Pretty sure the lead developer of Dota approached Valve. I'm 100% certain you can't remake games you don't own.
Pretty sure the lead developer of Dota approached Valve. I'm 100% certain you can't remake games you don't own.
more like valve hired both the original creator eul as well as the current developer icefrog.
But, this'll be awesome. I am not biased.
Is HoN still relevant?
As well as a hero, you choose a pet to take into battle, which have assorted abilities and passive bonuses.
Now THIS is interesting; I've been playing Torchlight recently and having a pet certainly is a useful addition to the dungeon-crawler genre; it's like a courier who can fight for you. In the original the pet-as-courier system extends merely to being an extra set of bags that you send back to town when you want to sell your loot but want to keep adventuring, but apparently Torchlight 2 has an improvement on that formula wherein you can get your pet to buy potions and scrolls whilst they're in town, which is another bonus to the formula. If they make it so your pet is also a courier, like how Torchlight works, it would certainly alter the face of the game.
It'll have persistence, as pets level up and crafting lets you permanently boost the stats of items you buy in matches.
Hmmm, this part gets me both excited and concerned; crafting's a cool and interesting little thing, but having it boost the effectiveness of the items you buy in the match does seem a little unbalancing, wherein those with the advantages will be more likely to win because their items are more effective than those of lower-level players. Even if they partition the players into matchmaking groups, there'll still be that problem of someone having items that are more powerful than others due to external upgrades. But to solve this problem, I suggest that the "upgrades" are instead redesigned as sidegrades, giving the heroes more options to choose from when picking their items and their pet. All in all, it is interesting, but some of the design decisions concern me somewhat. The karma system seems alright, even though it could in theory be abused unless S2 employs a professional team of "judges" to discern between mad folks being spiteful and genuine negative behaviour. As for sharing gold between lanes, on one hand it means that farming would benefit the entire team in general, but on the other hand it'd mean that the whole carry farming for personal gain would be somewhat downplayed, with the emphasis of farming being "we have a guy whose job is to farm gold for our team". That said, in terms of roles like Carry and Support, Farmer would in theory be a genuine role if gold from each creep-kill gave gold to everyone, plus we wouldn't have to worry too much about supports taking last-hits from the carry, so all in all it might be a positive development. Being a fan of the MOBA genre, S2's Strife has got my attention with it's interesting mechanics; I should keep my finger on the pulse when it comes to the development of this particular title, and see whether it can truly stand up to League and Dota in the current MOBA climate. Also lets hope S2 has improved in terms of balance, if what I've heard is accurate.
Quoting from my previous response to this:
I have heard that Valve and Icefrog are looking into adding custom maps to Dota 2, which will expand Dota 2's player base so much
