They chose to finish together but Morris's front wheel crossed the line first and she was awarded bronze. Morris suffered a dislocated shoulder after being hit by a car in July. "It's been quite emotional the last few weeks," said Morris, who won gold in the time trial in Beijing four years ago. "This year has been a bit tough and Karen has been amazing, so to go across the line together felt really right. "I've not had the best lead-in to these Games so this bronze medal means more than gold. It just means everything to me. "My team-mates have been fantastic and it was amazing to go round with Karen. We have worked so hard together and wanted to finish together." The pair had wanted to share the medal but Morris took to the podium after officials gave her third place based on the photo finish. "We've worked so hard together over the last few years, we couldn't bear the thought of pipping each other to the line," said the 41-year-old Darke, who has already won time-trial silver. "It wasn't that one of us was stronger than the other, so we just thought, 'Let's do it, let's grab our hands at 50m and go.'"
As heart warming and shit as this is, it's kinda you know, the whole point of the games to compete but hey whatever floats your boat, or in this case, pedals your wheelchair.

Did one of them get killed by Voldemort?
That's nice and all but that defeats the purpose of the games which is to COMPETE
-snip didn't notice the feet-
because everything is about being better than your opponent instead of showing good sportsmanship and showing that you can accept defeat, or victory from any opportunity
So what good sportsmanship is now sharing a medal? Look it's cool and all and really I have no issues with this, if they want to share the medal then more power to them but the fact is the games are literally all about competition and showcasing your skills.
That's nice and all but that defeats the purpose of the games which is to COMPETE
why the fuck do you care
How can someone live like that? It looks like half of their vital organs are missing.
[t]http://imgkk.com/i/10cc.jpg[/t] [t]http://imgkk.com/i/wjj8.jpg[/t]
why the fuck do you care
I don't just expressing my opinion on the article. Don't get so bent out of shape
That's nice and all but that defeats the purpose of the games which is to COMPETE
These things about more than just competition, something you and others might not understand. Especially for those are crippled, its about bravery, courage, brotherhood, sportsmanship. Its not about glory nor victory.
because everything is about being better than your opponent instead of showing good sportsmanship and showing that you can accept defeat, or victory from any opportunity
The paralympics are exactly that. The paralympics are for permanently injured folk to compete and find out who's best at physical sports, not to see who can invoke the biggest d'aawww from the crowd. This would have been appropriate for a marathon or something. But at the paralympics? Nope. If two contestants in literally every other top-level sport conspired to do this they'd get the boot.
Good to see not everyone is a super serious competition maniac that can't chill out, even at that level. Though them crossing the line at the same time is impossible. Had to say that to appease the pedantic part of me.
why the fuck do you care
what an overreaction
because everything is about being better than your opponent instead of showing good sportsmanship and showing that you can accept defeat, or victory from any opportunity
That's the point of having a loser, you tit. You can talk about sportsmanship and being a good person but the point of a fucking competition is to try your hardest and accept defeat if another person is better than you, or to win gracefully and honour your opponents for putting up their best. You can't do that if no one wins the fucking thing.
That's nice and all but that defeats the purpose of the games which is to COMPETE
Come on, COMPETE for me crippled people!
Did they cut the medal in half? (i'm sorry)

I've always found the tradition or whatever to bite the medal so fucking stupid. You look like a failed stockphoto however hard you try. [editline]8th September 2012[/editline]
That's the point of having a loser, you tit.
I've always found the tradition or whatever to bite the medal so fucking stupid. You look like a failed stockphoto however hard you try.
They should begin handing out chocolate medals instead so they can enjoy it in full.

Holy fuck that is a motherfucking genius idea!
Darke had already won silver in the games this year so I think it's nice that Morris gets the bronze. To people complaining about this, do you hate these videos too? NO HE'S NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE HIS FATHER HELP HIM HE'S MEANT TO COMPETE NO YOU NEED TO COMPETE! YOU CAN'T GO TO THE OLYMPICS IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO WIN
That's not really a good angle to judge from.
It looks equal and relevant to the article okay!
Are you seriously complaining about two sportswomen being nice to each other
No, I really don't. I couldn't give a shit about sports in general. But are you really saying that not competing isn't against the purpose of a fucking competition?
No, I really don't. I couldn't give a shit about sports in general. But are you really saying that not competing isn't against the purpose of a fucking competition?
why do you care so much
why do you care so much
Are you trying to say that you have to care about something to argue about it over the internet This response is really starting to get old. No, I don't care. That doesn't mean you're not factually wrong if you think that not competing doesn't undermine the entire purpose of a competition.
so you don't understand the concept of sportsmanship? or just don't believe it should be in sports? i mean, if in EVERY SINGLE RACE people did this and held hands going across with people it would be pretty fucking stupid. but these people have been partners in training, have both gone through incredible hardships to get to where they are now and because of morality and sportsmanship decided to do this. do you also think when they have those little 10 year olds play against the national hockey teams during half time, the national hockey team players should just fucking annihilate those kids and body check them into the boards giving them concussions because SPORTSMANSHIP doesn't have any place in SPORTS along with competition?

Competition and sportsmanship are not mutually exclusive.
the good attitude/behaviour displayed by players of a game; fairness, determination, winning or losing gracefully
