It's a fucking game. Also, a woman was one of the SWAT members, but nooo lets not focus on that.
Who the fuck cares what gender the hostage is??
The writer brings up the "Women are weak and need protecting, men or for being tough and rescuing"rope when 1.) There was a female swat member getting into the action, I don't know if it was just the voice of the player or if there was a female model as well. 2.) HE JUST SAID THERE'LL BE MALE HOSTAGES WHO WILL OBVIOUSLY NEED RESCUING AND UNABLE TO DEFEND THEMSELVES. The writer complains about an old trope/cliche then explains how the game's averting them anyway. CAUSE FOR WORRY INDEED RPS.
This thread better not become like that Assassins creed one. And the more you focus on these sort of issues, the worse you look.
it fucking boggles my mind how someone can see a new game and not comment about the game but instead immediately start finding ways to complain about shit like this.
Is this really the Future of Videogame journalism? Sexist here, Offensive there?
rps really needs to fuck off with all this pointless bullshit
this didn't even cross my mind for a second until now, and i agree with you that it's dumb to ignore the fact that there are female squad members and male hostages, but the reasoning behind showing a female member coming from ubisoft was pretty ridiculous. He could've easily just said "oh it was just random, we didn't really have a reason" but he didn't. what they say doesn't neccessarily have anything to do with the game though, so in the end it won't matter as long as the game isn't as bad as RPS worries it'll be.
im starting to get sick of this whole sexism dilema honestly... its a game not MACHO MEN:THE RAMPAGE
The hostage might as well be a fucking toaster and 99% of people couldn't care less.

Do you remember how there were no female characters in Half Life 1 ? Do you guys remember how Gordon had to save Alyx from dying in half Life 2 Episode 2 ? For the sake of feminism those two games should be removed from all the list of greatest games ever made because of all the sexism in it... Really these reporters should focus on more important things than calling a potential male affection towards women sexist and what not...
I always find it funny that RPS gets upset at everything being sexist when the staff is four white guys and one woman. Alice has been stuck as the news editor for forever and they don't let her write serious pieces.
So they only showed one level at E3 and it just so happens that it's a female in that particular level, whoop dee fucking do. I don't see a slightest problem here. RPS is just grasping at straws now. The one thing I did find weird about the hostage in that game is how the SWATs pretty much use her as a human shield while trying to rescue her. Like when you get to pick her up, you get to push her in front of you with one hand while holding a pistol in the other hand. WTF is up with that? I'm not an expert here, but I don't think that's how you protect a hostage.

Sexist here, Offensive there?
"people threw a shit fit about female representation in assassins creed, I bet I'll get a ton of ad revenue out of an article that nags at the same core [regardless of context/lack thereof]"
Did Gawker media buy RPS or something
If it had of been male there would have been lots of whining about there being no females in the game. They just can't win.
If it had of been male there would have been lots of whining about there being no females in the game. I'd say Ubisoft has plenty of more legitimate reasons to bash them at this point and time, especially for PC gamers. But I still remain cautiously optimistic about a new Rainbow Six
