Never been a fan of Bioshock but I want to try and start somewhere.
Should I get it? And do I need to play the other ones to understand this one?

The story is great, the gameplay in my opinion meh. You don't need to play bioschock 1 or 2 to understand this one.

You don't need to play BioShock 1 or 2 to play Infinite, there are a few nods to it but Infinite takes place before BioShock 1. You might appreciate parts of Infinite a little bit more when playing BioShock 1 or 2 first but otherwise I think you're good to go.
Bioshock Infinite is worth it for that price IMO.
I liked the gameplay of BioShock 1 and 2 better but Infinite was a drag. Pity, too, the story was so good, but it was more of a shooting gallery than CoD at times.

I bought the game on release day and I still haven't finished it since the gameplay is so boring. Maybe one day...

Now that is bit extreme don't you think? The gameplay sure gets boring but not THAT boring. I don't understand how you couldn't even finish the game due to that.
I'm surprised everyone liked the story and disliked the gameplay, for me if the gameplay wasn't as fun as it was I wouldn't have finished cuz I hated the story so much.
I got it because at 13 bucks why not.
Great game, Elizabeth is a very interesting companion.
Odd regional pricing, shows up as USD$20 for me
I fucking loved Infinite, so much so I completed it a further seven times after the initial playthrough.
I didn't like it at all. It has a poor story that is filled to the brim with plot holes, coupled with tedious gameplay that doesn't fit the story. That Elizabeth is an awful character doesn't exactly help.

I thought the gameplay was a lot more fun compared to B1 and 2 just because the feel of the other games in general was just boring.
I disliked Infinite for its very hands off approach to its gameworld.
In Bioshock 1 and 2 you are a vital element of a grand mechanism, and your involvement determines the lives of hundreds, if not thousands.
In Infinite, [sp]They basically pull the, it was all a dream, thing. Completely making every hour spent on driving the plot forward look like a waste of time.[/sp]
That and the end of the story meant to tie up all the loose ends quickly devolved into what felt like half an hour of being frantically explained what the hell was going on before the game's aprupt end.

She's not an awful character, but definitely over-exaggerated in how good she is. Meaning, she's nothing special.

Let me rephrase that then: A character who worked awfully with the gameplay mechanics and as such didn't feel like anything but another NPC.
For example, she never had a problem with the murdering and shooting after the very first time it happened, and whenever she got mad she would still be as happy to pick locks and give you money as before, while repeating the same jolly lines she always used.

what game has a good story to you
what game has a good story to you
Don't get me wrong, it would have been a great story if it had been taking place in a universe with set rules, but the only rules that had been explained wouldn't allow for many of the twists to happen.
I'd say a couple of rather recent games with good stories would be To The Moon, Gone Home, The Last of Us and The Witcher. There are many examples, sadly Infinite isn't one of them.
