This tournament will be the first time Dota 2 is shown in public, and will take place August 17th -21st at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. The International features the 16 best Dota teams in the world competing in the Dota 2 Championships through a group stage, double elimination playoff format over the course of Cologne's five-day trade show. The tournament will be broadcast in four languages (Chinese, German, Russian, and English) free of charge. The winning team will receive $1 million. “The International is the first public Dota 2 event and will give the tens of millions of gamers playing Dota around the world their first look at the new game,” said Gabe Newell, president and founder of Valve. “I have had the good fortune to watch the competitors as they prepare for the tournament, and the level of play is extraordinary.” In addition to the cash prizes awarded by Valve, NVidia is providing all the hardware for the event. Dota 2 will be available for the PC and Mac later this year. Valve, you crazy bastards.
Impressive way to market the game to say the least. Haha no team from North America.
Impressive way to market the game to say the least. Haha no team from North America.
They know we wont like the game anyways.
Asians asians asians asians UKRANIANS
I'm rooting for Russia. Second choice Ukraine. Mather Rassia for great victory!
That's crazy as fuck
Spoiler, the asians win.
This is an amazing way to showcase a new game. I would love to see more companies do this.
This partially seems like a way to one-up the League of Legends Season 1 Championship. And by 1 up I mean 10 up because the prize money is 10x the LoL prize. Not really complaining.
And then, Valve was Korea.
That's a lot of money for a video game tournament, I'm actually interested to see how the game looks like even if Dota isn't my type of game.
Yea but since its there first time playing dota 2 wont there be a few conversion problems. Things that might work in the first game not working in the 2nd.
This kind of reminds me of The Wizard (movie) in the sense that there's this huge competition for the first time people publicly play the game. Pretty cool!
Impressive way to market the game to say the least. Haha no team from North America.
Well, three out of twelve teams in the League of Legends finals were North American, and one went on to win the tournament.
Asians asians asians asians UKRANIANS
lol, the Ukrainian team is named "Na'Vi".
Well, from the information I was able to gather thanks to Google. MYM (Denmark) is the top ranking team in DotA.. MYM from what I have seen in defeats/wins has mainly lost to Na`Vi (Ukraine) Very interesting never the less.. Specially with 1Million dollar USD prize. Will most certainly tune in to watch the games! http://www.gosugamers.net/dota/database.php
Well, three out of twelve teams in the League of Legends finals were North American, and one went on to win the tournament.
Not saying North Americans aren't good at DOTA, just found it amusing not a single team from North America had been invited. I think there should be at least one, but I guess valve figured there isn't one that ranks among the best in the world. I mean they are giving away 1 million dollars, they obviously invited the best of the best.
i just want want EP3 so hurry valve valve dota 2 2 must go go!
Winners money is delayed calling it
Well Valve is doing a good job at hyping DOTA2. Never thought I'd be excited to watch competitive game matches. IT'LL BE LIKE FOOTBALL FANS BUT FOR NERDS
I think the most impressive feat is that the prize is $1,000,000. I knew Valve was making an exceptionally sized boat load of cash, but this is grand. They're basically giving away $1,000,000 for a marketing campaign of sorts.
