I thought it, like the rest of Opeth's work, was amazing and was curious what FP thought of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3tDw7znNyQ
It's so two years ago.
I haven't listened to it, or Opeth at all, in like at least a year but it's one of my favorite Opeth albums. I really like Burden and The Lotus Eater.
It's amazing. Nothing will top Still Life for me though.

Opeth barly classifies as metal, it's more progressive rock
Yeah, you're right. Opeth are barely metal
Opeth barly classifies as metal, it's more progressive rock
They're prog rock/prog death. Depending on the songs. often both together in the same. But yeah it's a brilliant album. I've never given Still Life a good listen yet.
Well seeing as the video in the OP is a complete contrast to the above video, I had no idea who Opeth were until now, I don't think it's really fair to rate me dumb
It's amazing. It annoys me how much more indistinct they are on Still Life, even though it is still an amazing album. Watershed is fantastic, they really pushed the boat out with their experimentation on that one. But to me, Morningrise has to win for my favourite. Though it's only flaw is Mikael's vocals are much weaker than on later albums, hearing those tracks live now he has his death bellow going on, they are stunning [editline]01:30PM[/editline]
Yeah, you're right. I love Watershed. It's pretty much perfect imo.
:buddy:
I also love that the song with near enough constant double bass for the first 5 minutes has a strummed acoustic and vocal harmony about 2 minutes after that :downs:
It took some getting used to for me, seeing as I've mostly known the Blackwater Park/Deliverance and Damnation era Opeth, but it's turned into one of my favourite albums, Coil, Heir Apparent, Burden and Hex Omega are my favourite tracks, although the rest is amazing, and the bonus tracks, particularly the one in swedish are awesome.

Personally, the biggest waste of money I've ever spent on a single album. The only song I really like off the album is "Heir Apparent." Every day I lament over getting this album. Don't get me wrong, I love Opeth - when they play death metal. I enjoy the acoustics and the soft singing, but not when the majority of the album is exactly that - You're "progressive death metal," Opeth - play some fucking death metal once in a while! Just my personal opinion on it, though. It's a wonderfully crafted album - I just don't like most of it. That being said, can anyone recommend an Opeth album that is actually, you know, death metal? :v:

Its also amazing considering its their first official release.

For all I care, they could cut all their metal elements and I would still love them. Same thing goes with the progressive rock elements.
Same, I love Damnation, and it has no death metal in it at all, it's only prog rock. It's still an amazing album. If they were to stop using death and continued just as a prog rock band, I would still love them. Watershed is a very good album, and definitely amongst the best of the death metal coming out these days but it's not as good as their previous albums(doesn't mean that watershed is bad, just that Opeth's previous albums are ridiculously good)
I didn't love watershed, but I'll say this, it's an amazing live album.
Yeah, you're right. Opeth are barely metal
I fucking love you. That's all I have to say. :buddy:

Yeah, you're right. Opeth are totally metal.
Watershed's 'Heir Apparent' solo gets me every time.

It ain't my favorite, but it is still pretty good.

And watershed is a great album which I rate as highly as still life, anyone else think blackwater park is a little over rated? It's great but they have much better albums
I agree about Blackwater Park being overrated. The Funeral Portrait is one of the few Opeth songs I don't like at all.
