• I might be getting for sack tomorrow for something that there is no proof of me doing.

So let me set the picture. I am an assistant manager in a frozen food super market, it doesn't pay very well but it is good enough while i am at college (UK) studying computing. I have worked with the company for three and a half years and have been an assistant manager for one and a half years. So basically tonight i cashed up all the tills (we only have three) and the first two were fine no money missing the third one was £60 down, all the usual checks were done (safe check, credit card slip check, etc) and the money was still missing and cashier was happy to be searched. the money still didn't turn up. so i phoned my manager to let him know and he said he would so some checks in the mourning. I also had to phone my area manager to let her know about it and she went apeshit about it basically saying that her and my manager was talking and he said something along the lines of "The tills are never down when mark doesn't cash up." So she was basically blaming me for someone else losing some money, she also said "We never had any problems with the tills before you became assistant manager." i couldn't fucking believe what she actually said but i didn't flip out as i wanted i had to keep my cool. afterwards she said "i am coming down tomorrow to check all the money and if the £60 isn't found then we are going to get rid of you" i did try to defend myself but she is stubborn as hell. Another side to this story is that me and my manager don't get on at all, no other person in the store likes him. on Sunday when i was working i phoned him up and had a massive argument with him because every time its his day off he does a massive order. now he is a bit of a pussy and hasn't said anything about the argument to my face. but before he left i think he took £60 out of the till and set me up (he has cash problems going through a divorce and stuff) so i would get the blame and he would get off free. So i have a number of options: A: Take the sack and take them to a tribunal for having no proof. B: Resign before she can sack me. C: Take it higher and let the personnel manager know what my area manager is doing. but i don't know what to do i am so angry i could punch a hole in my monitor right now. also just a note we don't have any cameras or anything despite being raided not too long ago they wont buy us anything.
Do you mean, the sack? Edit: Okay I understand now, I would let it take its course, fight it and bring the man who's you believe stole to the attention of the higher ups.
C i think would be best.
They're being completely unprofessional, where I work, if money goes missing on one of the checkouts then they will conduct a full scale search into every person that had used that till recently. You should take it higher if you can or just take the sacking and take legal action.

But again, taking it higher and being professional with your upper boss types will make them believe your story more them. Don't get all legal defensive right away or no one will believe you.
I don't know if they can sack you if they have no proof? I'm sure the employee would be willing to defend you too?
Kill her.
Get fired, then take them to a tribunal to be humiliated. I'm not sure if it's the same over in Britain, but you could get monetary payment for "damages".
Holy shit, what a bitch. She probably did it and is just trying to get the blame dropped on someone else.
C, and then A if she still does it. Consider legal advice from your local Citizen's Advice Bureau if you go down the route of A.
thanks for the useful advice guys. i will keep you updated with what happens tomorrow.
Being the assistant manager means you are first in line after the manager when shit hits the fan.
It's your responsibility as an assistant manager..
If you want to keep the job, fight it. Fight like hell for it. I had a very similar problem, and didn't do shit about it. It was a good decision for me - I hated, hated that job - but if you actually want the job, kick some ass.
I'd go for C and if that doesn't work fall back on A. Don't do B. Don't even think about it.
C then A, leach139's advice is spot on.
Don't take any shit, fight it out of principle.
i would choose C to be honest.
If she's that stubborn just go for option C for now, she sounds like she's an angry red faced moron so she's probably not coming for good news anyway. If you are fired tommorow just go straight to option A. Option B would be okay if you already found a new job to move straight into but doesn't look like enough time for that.
I dont have a new job to move into but i absolutely despise the place and have done for some time now. my parents think it would be better for me to quit before i get fired so i don't have to put "fired from..." on my CV. I have to get up at 5:30am for work and cant sleep...
Like several others have said, go for C first. If that doesn't work, A is your best option.
Or you could suck it up and just give them 60 pounds but then again, you're out 60 pounds and your shitty co-workers would still hate you. At least you'd still have your job
C then A. Tribunals can leave a messy spot on your employment record. Just deal within the company. If it goes well within the company, your record will be awesome, and it will be easier to get a higher position.
If you walk away it will only enforce in their mind that you did take the money. I say fight it. Just remember to keep your cool about things and stay level headed.
They've got no evidence that you did it. If your store has cameras, watch the footage from throughout the night, chances are you'll be able to see who took it / find any error. Unfortunately, however, being as you were the manager on duty, you take liability for anything that is missing. It comes with the job title.

Regardless, he's still liable for whatever goes on in the night. Is it right that he be accused of something he didn't do? No, but again, when you take a power position you risk being liable for pretty much everything.
Fun fact guy, she can not legally fire you without proof you took the money, there needs to be like video evidence. just so you know.

It's probably either wring counting, or someone has accidentally given two notes stuck together. If it's the one lady who is giving you this shit then complain to someone higher up. They can't sack you due to one mishap with the tills.
