I currently have an OEM version of Windows 7 and I want to replace the motherboard so I have room to upgrade it. What would happen if I took the old one out, put the new one in and installed the drivers? Could I buy a new online key and it would work okay? Or will i need to do a clean install?
Thanks in advance.
Well, Press start, type dxdiag in the search box and press enter. Take a screenshot of the window using the alt-Print Screen keys. paste the screenshot in paint and save it on your desktop. Upload the image to somewhere like Photobucket or TinyPic and post it here.
That's a small computer, you'd probably need a new case along with your motherboard. I don't think you'll need to reinstall but it's probably a good idea. The key that came with your computer should work fine.
No worries guys i got a new case ages ago, Im not a dumbass.
Thanks guys for your help.
I think you will need a new key because OEM copies link to the motherboard and as your replacing that the key wont work so you will have to buy a new one.
Somebody correct me if I am wrong.
i read somewhere on this forum you have to call good old Microsoft and tell them your switching the mobo or something, and they will do something with the key to make it work. (thats the oem version)
Alrighty then Ill have to give them a call at some point. Thanks for the help!
you should keep the board for spares, put it in a 800D for shits
