A new QA team has been employed to work on the game, and a ticketed support system will be implemented next week.
Ouch. That's... not a good mark on Hello Games/Sony's reputation. Why only now?

What part, the QA or the support system? Because they're saying a NEW QA team, not a QA team in general. Obviously they had some sort of QA before launch, but it might not have been as expansive, especially given how small their studio is. With NMS out the door they can actually afford employing more people.
Well, yeah. I assumed that they had some QA already, or else NMS for PS4 probably would be bricking consoles and shit (or would've failed Sony certification to go to gold master, leading to even more delays).
Later in the article, there's a quote from Sean that's essentially "We did not expect to be this popular", so I guess I can give them a pass on not hiring a huge QA team when they expect their little niche title to stay a niche title...although how they could've missed the insane hype going on all over the Internet before it was released and see the scope of the fanbase and their hopes and dreams for the game, I'm not sure. I guess if everyone was busy making the game and nobody was paying enough analytical attention to the fan reception.

What the hell ? NMS has been in the spotlight ever since the VGX 2013 debut, all of the official gameplay trailers have millions of views. How did they not expect lots of people playing this.

I'll be totally honest, I haven't seen anyone hype for this game with unrealistic expectations. I've seen people speculate, sure, but for every person speculating there's 10 people shitting on them for being even remotely excited. I've seen more negativity pre-launch of this game and more "We told you so" then I've seen actual hype or even interest.

pretty sure they could have easily just looked at pre-order numbers or gauge the reaction everyone had when NMS was delayed for 3 months. hell, even just open up any website and ctrl+f no man's sky.
insane hype was mostly built up by them anyways (18 quintillion planets, hundreds of hours, etc.) so it's not like they didn't know their game was going to be popular.

FP's pretty level-headed for the most part, but I've had people ask me to confirm what their friend said about NMS having x where x is something Hello Games/Sony never promised and sounds more like something from Star Citizen or EVE or Elite. Like all space games look/play alike or something.
I've heard anecdotes from other FP posters in the NMS megathread and others elsewhere that friends of theirs thought NMS was an MMO and they'd be gathering with friends and playing Space WoW with skill trees and shit. Anecdotally, some slice of the CoD and ARMA 3 fanbases for some reason thought that NMS was in any way related beyond having a first-person mode with a gun-like thing that kills things sometimes.
But I agree that the antihype is disproportionate, at least around "adult" gaming communities. It's a weird "stop liking this" backlash that I don't get.

I never expected NMS to be multiplayer. Ever since the first trailer I only wanted to have another eye-candy (those lush planets) space exploration game, and honestly the new features they are adding are just icing on the cake for me.
The only thing that would make me disappoint is that the PC version doesn't look as good as the trailers, but we'll have to see.

I think the antihype largely stems from the fact that the game is quite polarizing. There is a large middleground of people like me who have been a bit cynical/skeptical of the game but are still open to seeing it in action, but then you have the standard shouting matches between the 'this will be the saviour of gaming' crowd and the 'this game is going to be utter garbage stop worshipping it' crowd with some bandwagoning from your average joe who read a strong opinion one way or another and is diving in to help with the war effort.

The multiplayer aspect is a weird issue...They have detailed on numerous occasions what kind of multiplayer there is in the game but from what I saw always heavily emphasized the point that it isn't a coop game. Problem is between the interviews being so insanely vague and not giving a straight answer on the subject it has just allowed people to continue believing that they will be able to group up with their friends and fly around, I mean even look now where Sean Murray acknowledged on twitter that two people went to the exact same spot saying its amazing but never addressed the fact that they couldn't actually see each other.
