RadioShack filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Thursday, according to reports.
The electronics chain filed its long-awaited bankruptcy papers Thursday evening; it aims to reorganize under Chapter 11. The retailer reported assets of $1.2 billion and debts of $1.3 billion, as of Nov. 1, according to Reuters. It will sell up to 2,400 stores.
Man that's gotta suck for all those who are about to lose their jobs over this. Here's to hoping they can make it through this and find new work soon.
They failed to stay with the market. They tried to be something they weren't to late..if they stayed as a electronic store that actually sold components and parts maybe they would have been OK. But even then most people order online cause it is cheaper.

We loved you RadioShack.
It's such a damn shame you threw yourself under that bus.
It sucks but they really did fuck all to keep up with the market, people can get parts those niche parts next day at a cheaper prices.
Liquidation sale when? I need me some overpriced limited selection electrical components one last time. At least with liquidation sale they'll be cheaper.
they should have moved more of the maker stuff up front, also stopped selling cell phones
who has ever bought a cellphone from radioshack?

I remember reading about this, apparantly working at a Radioshack is barely even a job at all. Long hours, terrible pay, no vacation time, etc. You basically belong to Radioshack.

This. I hope it's when I'm home from school, there are no Radioshacks here. Cheap shortwave radios and electrical components ftw.
Apparently it's a bit worse, last week a few more of the stores closed, only giving some employees a few hours notice.
This past Sunday, RadioShack (RSHC) quietly closed 200 more stores, according to multiple employees. Staff at several of those stores say they were given only hours notice last week before rental trucks arrived to haul away remaining inventory.
I know a few drug dealers who did because they have those cheap ones that take minute cards.
Aaaaand there goes my job.

Not going to miss it, we had one in my neighborhood but I've never used it aside from a video cable 4 years ago

I only ever heard about Radioshack from this video:

RIP.
I used to make small guitar amps and craft them inside fancy cigar boxes. Got my IC chip and boards from RS.

lm386 based? nasty
I've got a guitar with an onboard lm386 based amplifier, it's not the best sounding thing
Hold on. You mean to tell me Radio Shack didn't go out of business 10 years ago? Because that's when they left Canada. I haven't seen a Radio Shack since.

RadioShack Canada was bought out by The Source and renamed The Source by Circuit City.
Their liquidation sales are only 20-50%, so you're still probably better off elsewhere.
It was inevitable. They could have stuck with the cool old stuff and failed when people began buying parts online, or stuck with the phones and fuck themselves like they did.
Sad, but predictable.
I came for a DVI cable a year ago and all they had was for 25 bucks. That's ridiculous. Good riddance.

A good and hilarious read on why Radioshack failed
I saw a apply now sticker in a radioshack store, should I apply for the temp position?
no really, is it cruel?

True but it was the novelty of it. Wooden cigar boxes can be very beautiful looking and I absolutely LOVE THE SMELL they give off. It's a simple setup running on a diagram I got from a old co-worker that looks similar to this:

Just have that secured down on the inside, with 4 sanded wood blocks for supports on each coner and a 1/4in cover that I pre-drilled holes for the speaker, red LED light and toggle switch. They look very elegant and make great gifts.
My co-worker/room mate held a Electronic engineering degree and loved to fit amps custom amps into random shit like a pocket amp fitted into a small SKOL can. He got me into doing it as a hobby.

I've lived in Japan for the last 6 years so no dice. I haven't been in the US in a long time. If they have an online sale I MIGHT be able to have my parents forward it to me.
Seems like just yesterday that my mother would take me down the Radio Shack to get a replacement AC Adapter for my NES(albeit not an official one). While I haven't been there in a LONG time(last time was like 12 years ago when I was looking for the cable to connect my Gameshark Pro to my computer, they didn't have it), they will be missed by me.

My friend worked there up until about a month ago. They cut her hours so bad after announcing her store's closure that she pretty much had to find another job.
I don't even know why anyone is saying good riddance. Radioshack stores are a great place to find a font of knowledge and it's a shame that there being beat out by shit stores like Best Buy. I've never had a good experience in a Best Buy.
The one near me is already selling everything 75% off
