I put this post in this topic because I am pretty sure it has to do with some weird gizmo in my computer. But anyway, it seems no one can connnect to my servers. My brothers have their computers in the same room. And they make a server and it works fine. But when I make one it won't appear anywhere! Can I have any help? I don't think I need to post computer specs, but if I do I will.
Is LAN on or off?
check your firewall and make sure that it allows the game to access the internet. and also, what do you mean by 'some weird gizmo in my computer'? what is it?
Could be a lot of things. I suggest you look up on making a server for whatever game and follow the guide you find.
When ever I try to access my firewall settings it says:
Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you wany to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service?
I click yes and then:
Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) service.
I click OK and it exits. What do I do now?

lan.
Try to disable your firewall (windows firewall seems to be disabled, so you might have some other one running like Norton firewall or something else)
If you have norton firewall, run for the hills.
Well, can you connect to other people's servers? and what program/game are you doing this on anyways? AND what is your ISP (internet service provider).
does that 'internet card' look something like this?

or are you using the LAN port integrated on your motherboard? if you aren't using the LAN port integrated on your motherboard, try using it.
ANNNNNND what operating system are you using, Windows XP?
What anti virus software do you have? AVG was causing me to not be able to connect and other to see me!
Could be a ports problem.
Not if its on local area network...

Yeah, I can connect to other's servers LAN and Internet games
A Half-Life Mod, The Specialists (But this also happens on normal HL1)
My ISP is Time Warner Cable? I think, but I'm not positive.
I am using the LAN Intergrated motherboard
I have Windows XP Media Center Edition
There. :)

Very common problem
Do you have a router sir?, if so
http://www.portforward.com/
Follow the directions and your golden. Don't worry about setting a static ip though, its the hardest part and often isn't necessary
I had the same problem for years, thank god I found that website

Model numbers I do believe.
go to your router, have a look at the label on it, going to be referencing a lot of the important stuff from it.
Alternatively you could go to your browser and type in the IP of your router and sign in to the router, would probably have the info somewhere around its menus.
Router IP would normally be something like:
192.168.1.2
192.168.1.1
192.168.0.1
Something like that, might be slightly different though.
I just can't seem to get it to work
probably need to forward the ports. not sure what ports you need to forward.
forwarding ports for linksys routers looks easy...
type 192.168.1.1 in your web browser's address bar and go to the applications & gaming tab.
should be able to forward ports from there. you need to find out what ports you need to forward though.
not sure if this is the prob, but it usually is.
good luck :)
