What is Office 2010? Office 2010 (codename "Mondo") is the next version of Microsoft Office. It's like Windows 7 - a small touch-up to the previous version. What's new in Office 2010? Instead of having a "Office orb" that opens up a menu of what to do, the orb has been changed into a little block. Clicking the block opens up a whole window (codenamed "Backstage view") dedicated to things you can do. There's a lot of options now. Office 2010 will support the ISO'd version of Open Office XML. Microsoft also says that it will include a built-in screen capture tool, a background removal tool, a protected document mode, new SmartArt templates and author permissions. A refined Ribbon interface will be present in all Office applications, including Office Outlook, Visio, OneNote, Project and Publisher. Office applications will also have jumplists in Windows 7. Microsoft is also going to offer web based versions of office that can be used on any computer or smartphone. The web based versions look identical to the regular ones, so it's going to be interesting to see how that works out. Office now comes in both 32bit and 64bit. Hooray for faster performance! i like the new colors for things. i mean, not new, but the BG after you click the office button (i assume). also, still not much transparency :saddowns: unless the whole top of the window there is? also, is there still a splash screen? and if so, does it look better?

It's quite awesome. It even fades from transparent to white at the top. The splash screen is FUCKING AWESOME. It does a swoosh animation that switches between all the office colors. Really epic. Problem is, it opens too fast to see it after first run :( Here's a powerpoint screenshot: There's even an option to show the slideshow online. That's really awesome. Too bad it doesn't work :(
Bug.
Looks pretty nice. Good news that there's a 64 bit version as well.
The splash screen is awesome, I always tend to move it around when it appears.
I got an invitation today, but somehow it fucked up :argh: Still waiting on a response from MS
Sweet, i prefer the old ribbon tho.
I got an invitation today, but somehow it fucked up :argh: Still waiting on a response from MS
It errors out when you try to join. Go to your connections directory and go to office 2010 and click accept.
I got invited in. Downloading it now. It certainly seems nice :D
It errors out when you try to join. Go to your connections directory and go to office 2010 and click accept.
It's not there.
This looks awesome. [editline]06:26PM[/editline] I still prefer the 2007 ribbon though, but it still looks really cool.
I still prefer Office 2008 icons
Got accepted, any difference between this one and the leaked one from awhile back? Is so I'll re-download it. EDIT: Well it doesn't matter, apparently my link will let me login, put in my information, but once thats done, it brings me to a page saying the page I requested wasn't found. Fuck.
I'll stick to Notepad++
I'll stick with OpenOffice and GoogleDocs.
I'll stick with OpenOffice and GoogleDocs.
OO is terrible, never used google docs, but do you need an internet connection? have fun

Hilariously they seem to put a barrier preventing installation of Office 2010 on XP x64 edition although, after further investigation, I installed on a different computer and copied the folder over and the applications work absolutely fine in XP x64. The stupid cocks.
I'll stick with OpenOffice and GoogleDocs.
I just lol'd.
I just lol'd.
Why? Because it's the logical thing to do? What kind of idiot shells out the money for an office suite at home when OO.o works perfectly fine for 95% of the tasks you're going to be doing? I've gone through 2 years of college using OO, and I've had to use Office only once. It handles powerpoint presentation fine, excel spreadsheets fine, and even opens Office 2007's mess of a standard XML files. Entirely free, 140 MB download with JRE. I can only see the few businesses currently using 2007 switching to this.
I've had way too many issues with OO.
Good to know. I haven't. So I guess what you're saying is to try OO first then buy Word if you're one of the few lucky ones for who it bugs out? I agree.
I won a free Office 2007 Ultimate from entering and winning the Imagine Tomorrow competition at Washington State University. MS Office is better than OO. Also I love OneNote and Groove.
I've used Onenote and love it but out of interest, what is Groove for?
Groove is for syncing of files or something like that.
Well, though I'm still on tech preview 1, I toyed around with Words pen functions: Pressure sensitivity needs work imo. EDIT: Ignore the fact that I have myspace open, I'm not an emo faggot.
EDIT: Ignore the fact that I have myspace open, I'm not an emo faggot.
Some people want to keep in touch with friends who happen to use a site you disagree with.
This looks fuckin sweet. Can't wait till I can get myself a copy. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in there.
Some people want to keep in touch with friends who happen to use a site you disagree with.
No no, don't get me wrong. I use it and I mean its okay and all. I just don't like some of the people I've encountered on there. I use it over facebook though. But its drifting away from its social style and becoming a portal. On-Topic: I've got the new download installing, so woo to that.
