• I can't install certain software onto my computer

I've been having this problem for a couple of days, I've tried what I thought might work, and I've looked on Google but I couldn't find a solution that worked for me. The first thing that won't install is Logitech software for my G35 headset. I run the installer, and when it's about to actually install the files, I get this error: I've gone to the folder and checked to make sure the file was there, and it was, then I clicked 'Retry' and the window popped up again with the same message. The second thing that won't install is Tortoise SVN, which I need so I can install Wiremod for Garry's Mod. I have no idea what to do about this one. My System Specs: [release] Operating System MS Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1 CPU Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.30GHz Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology RAM 8.00 GB DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24) Motherboard Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
If you haven't tried already: Right click > Run as administrator for each. A weak shot in the dark, I know.
Can't do that. There is no option for that. I've even gone into Right Click > Preferences > Compatibility and 'Run as Administrator' is grayed out. My UAC settings are even off. I've also found another thing I can't install; Xbox 360 Wireless controller driver for Windows 7 (64bit). Hmm. Re-enable UAC and set the security preferences to the Default setting (second tab on the slider). You may need to restart. Again, I'm blindly troubleshooting, but permissions are important.
That didn't work either.
That didn't work either.
I'm assuming you mean the option didn't return to your menu? Did you restart?
'Run as Administrator' shows up when I right click the installer for the controller driver, but not anything else. When I did use 'Ran as Admin' for the controller the same error showed up.
Interesting. Hold Ctrl+Shift and at the same time, click your installation file.
When I do that a blue line appears around the file icon, nothing else happens.
If you're not getting a prompt, your UAC settings are still fucked. Unless anyone else has any input, I'd recommend a Windows reinstall. Hopefully you're not too vested in your current installation.
Yeah, I only installed Windows 7 last week, not much on my computer except Steam which I have on my second hard drive. [editline].[/editline] I've reinstalled Windows 7. Now to set up and install these things.
Don't disable UAC.
File & Registry Virtualization is only active when UAC is turned on.
This means that some things will probably install to the wrong place among other problems.
Windows 7 is now working perfectly, and there were actually a few other things that now work that I was unaware about before I reinstalled. Thanks for the help! [editline].[/editline] I also found this which helped me a ton because I'm using my 60GB SSD for Windows 7 and my 1TB HDD for storage.
1/ Open the Registry Editor by selecting Start > Run > Regedit. 2/ Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion. 3/ In the right pane, double-click ProgramFilesDir and change the path in the String Editor to the drive and folder you want (i.e. H:\Program Files). You must also modify the entry for ProgramFilesPath. If your path is H:\ like mine is, the path would be H:\Program Files 4/ Exit the Registry Editor and restart your computer. My understanding is that some programs still require installation in the C:\Program Files folder, but I haven't found any yet. Excellent. I'm glad you got things working. Give me a shout if you're ever in need of assistance!
