• Odd Power Problem

A few hours ago I left my computer on the Lord of the Rings Online character creation screen and finished a game of Risk, when I returned the screensaver was on, which I found odd since I had left it on a game. I went to move my mouse, but it failed to work and then a few seconds later my screen said 'No signal', followed by the power shutting off to the entire computer. It wouldn't turn back on when I pressed the power button so I checked my surge protector, which showed no problems. I then went to find a fuse to check if anything had blown and when I came back my external hard drive was turning itself on and off and the monitor was off again. With all the original fuses, I pressed the power button again and it started up to the Windows startup screen and then turned off again. After a few more minutes my external hard drive was being strange again so I tried to start it up again, it worked fine, but when I got to the screen telling me that windows hadn't started properly I couldn't select anything since my keyboard had turned itself off. It wasn't until a minute after windows had fully started up that all of my peripherals were on and working again and my external hard drive turned itself off and on again one more time for good measure. Since the screensaver was on when I first saw it, I think it may have restarted at least once before I got to it. Since there were no other problems with electronics in the house, my lamp plugged into the same socket worked fine the entire time and none of the fuses were blown I suspect that something may be wrong with my hardware, most likely my PSU. It's about 2 years old as is a 500W Win Power ATX-500, there have never been any problems with it before. Is there something wrong with my PSU or have I just got Gremlins?
That's really weird. Maybe the PC overheated? It explains some of your PC's behaviour. But I have no idea what happened with your external hard drive and your keyboard.
Maybe, could it be that because my fan is beginning to look like the Abominable Dustman? What's a safe way to clean it? But I don't think that explains the peripherals becoming sentient and power button that did absolutely nothing whatsoever (Surely if it had overheated, as I've had an old computer do before, the power would come on for a second then switch off again?). Another posiblity is that I recently bought a new desk which has less ventilation behind it because of a main metal support panel right at the level of the opening in the back of the case.
