It's not just going to be "some" iMacs that bear a USA legend, but a whole line of Cupertino's computers from next year. In a TV interview with Brian Williams, Apple CEO Tim Cook has said "we will do one of our existing Mac lines in the United States," vaguely confirming that production of either iMacs, Mac Minis or Mac Laptops will make a wholesale move to the US in 2013. As the company doesn't own any manufacturing facilities itself, Cook has committed to invest more than $100 million with a partner -- following through on his previously stated desire to see production move to the US. After the break, we've got the relevant clip of tonight's show, where you'll also see Cook sharing his thoughts on the US' "skills gap."
And they will charge you just an extra $500
well this is good
though foxconn will still grow larger
designed in california
manufactured in detroit
so is this still somehow a bad thing just because apple did it?
Guess they won't be as thin anymore.
Every company should do this regardless if it costs consumers more.
apple never ceases to amaze me, sometimes they do stud that makes them look like utter assholes and other time they'll do stuff like this.
it's halftime in america ... powered by apple computing
The new iMac, now with a chocolate fingerprint texture all over it!
It's not manufacturing in china that's the problem, it's the shitty pay and work conditions..

Manufacturing shit in the US is always better for the US. May not be as cheap for the consumer, but in the long run it benefits the country.

Absolutely. Removing outsourcing for popular products such as Apple devices/computers would benefit the states greatly, because it actually helps to provide jobs and foster domestic economic growth.
Hmm Apple had a good guy moment for once. I'm actually happy to hear this; and the great thing is you won't hear them complaining about Obongo Care; their employees will hopefully be paid fairly and get proper medical care. Hopefully this is an example to other companies and forces a lot of the changes we need.
Obama should consider recognizing them for this, since this influence could really help him out.

The United States is hurting really bad because we've turned into a Service based country. We import more of the stuff that American companies are having manufactured overseas than most other countries in the world. Major corporations are hurting our economy because they prefer the cheap costs of labor overseas, rather than providing hardworking Americans the jobs they need.

Yeah because aisans don't need jobs right guys
Yeah because aisans don't need jobs right guys
Because manufacturing Macs is the biggest source of employment for all asians right Scot
Born in the USA is a good album. Not as good as Nebraska though.
Out-sourcing work overseas is one of the big reasons why so many countries are financially hurt right now.
It IS a problem, and it's actually quite a big one.
It's also the reason electronics are cheap as dirt, considering what kind of fucking high high high tech we are actually using.
Srsly, not even the biggest buisiness experts are sure about the effects of outsourcing.

Not the point. He is pointing out the "them vs. us" mentality that is behind the OP.
dont you say this in every thread
About as often as people make posts like these in Apple threads:
And they will charge you just an extra $500

dont you say this in every thread
about as often as people start to circlejerk against apple
so seems like a yes
Because American workers cost more.
uh
yeah
why do you think everyone manufactures in china
about as often as people start to circlejerk against apple

No one started an anti-Apple circlejerk here (there was a joke about prices, then we moved on). You just got defensive about nothing. People were actually saying how this is a great thing.
Jobs: they're coming back
designed in california

*Imported from Detroit.
Both figuratively and literally. That place is basically a third world country.

So that's what the mayans predicted :v:

You know how much shit gets kicked up when factories close, all the people losing their jobs. Same thing would happen there.
Still funny to me how people keep talking smack about how most of our consumer products are made in China/Taiwan.
Yet they line up for Apple products denying where it is constructed
You know how much shit gets kicked up when factories close, all the people losing their jobs. Same thing would happen there.
The amount of people that would lose their job is insubstantial and there's always jobs for manufacturing in China.

You would be surprised.
