Police at the scene cannot identify the remains. However they have said that Mr Manley's family is being informed.
Police have made a discovery off Belmore Road at Lorn, not far from Glenarvon Rd, about 10.15am.
Specialist forensic officers and detectives will continue to examine what police have called "a crime scene" throughout the afternoon.
The remains are yet to be formally identified and police are unable to confirm whether or not they are that of the missing 21-year-old man.
Detectives are treating the incident as suspicious and pursuing numerous lines of inquiry.

This kid was in my sisters year at high school and he came to her 18th where I met him I also talked to him at some other parties and out clubbing he was a good lad and didn't deserve what has happened to him. Its a very high chance that the remains are his as they were found beside the road he was last seen walking on its a pretty popular road and ive driven on it many times its hard to imagine that noone noticed his body and that someone might of hit him and just took off. Rest in peace buddy.
If they got a skull, a simple superposition of his photo should be more or less enough to tell it was him, failing that there's always trying to get viable DNA from the remains for a PCR analysis.
Yeah I am pretty sure they will confirm its him, the chance of it being someone else are very slim. Since he was last seen walking along that road, he hasnt accessed his bank, phone or facebook accounts and there are no other missing persons in the area. This whole thing is all very surreal.

Or, you know, they could just use his dental records.

CSI isn't real life.

I dunno he didn't really bring up anything implausible. It's just more likely his family will confirm it's him.

how does that work? does his family know what his skeleton looks like? i don't think i'd be able to identify my mom's skeleton

"Yep, that's a skeleton."
A bit insensitive but his name was cool, and it's always sad to hear about stuff like this. Imagine the guilt his mom must feel dropping him off at the station and never seeing him again, so sad
His actual name is Pip Vorontsov he went under a different name because it was easier for other people to spell and all that, alot of families that migrate here do this.
Then a skeleton popped out!

Do you have any idea how little sense that makes? The police could use a picture of almost any skull and the family's answer would be the same.

Really sorry about that OP; this kind of thing always makes me remember how it could be anyone..

There are much easier and more definite techniques if you have a full skull.

Well he did mention genetic testing too, and we don't know if they have a complete skull or not. All the article mentioned was skeletal remains, nothing specific.

It seems unfair to make fun of him when everyone is making just as much assumptions as he is.

Well I am not assuming "skeletal" means outright and specifically "skeleton". Plus if it was a hit and run as the OP suggests the skeleton would probably still be fully clothed and could be distinguished by the clothes or other items on him.
If you have the remains of his foot and a pair of boots then you could test to see if the boots fit on the feet! I don't think that'd help much with identification, but it would at least be kind of silly to see a skeleton wearing boots.
Dental records have confirmed what we all feared. Rest in peace buddy.

Thank god nobody on Facepunch is an officer, that'd be awful.
Oh wait...
On a more serious note I'm really sorry for this. It's always terrible when someone dies, rest in peace.
