That's not a new Rainbow Road, that's the N64 Rainbow Road.
I'm more excited for Toad's Turnpike

And they've made it a 3-parter like 7's
As much as I'm excited for this, I really, really wish they'd put in some kind of new mode in there, like a career or something and not just the quick-fire tournament mode we've had for the past few games, sure it's great on the handheld systems, but when they bring something like tournament mode to the consoles they make the game feel really empty content wise.
I just want more stuff in there for a big console release, but they kind of didn't do that with Mario Kart Wii.
Fucking finally, shy guy as a not ds-download-play character.

They did have the pretty nice mission mode in DS. I don't know why they didn't expand on it for future games. That's the one thing that bothers me so much about the Mario Kart series: They seem to introduce something new in every iteration...and then take it away in the next iteration alongside watering down some other mode that was better in the last game (like how battle mode sucked in Wii or how SP Vs. wasn't in 7 for some reason). So every new game just doesn't seem "complete". It isn't a straight "upgrade" from the last one.
8 does seem like an upgrade from 7, though. They brought back everything that made 7 unique (kart customization, gliding, underwater) and added more. I'm a little put off about not being able to hold an item while dragging an item, though. That's a massive balance change and I'm gonna have to see how that plays out in the actual game before I embrace it.

Shy Guy was a regular character in 7.
Metal Mario is back, I played as him a lot in 7 but the game is stuck under my moms car seat... If I do get a new version of it will I have my progress saved ?
I really like the moustache physics. That's the one thing Mario Kart has needed since the SNES days.
Is Waluigi in this game?

Interestingly enough ShyGuy was regarded as one of the best/most balanced characters in the DS Version.
For people curious about the tracks pictured, all but one (the night time course at the beginning) are retro tracks and are shown in this order:
