Steve Jobs warned President Barack Obama last year that he risked losing re-election over his policies toward business, according to the official biography of Apple's late co-founder.
"You're headed for a one-term presidency," Jobs told Obama when the two met in the fall of 2010, according to The Huffington Post, which obtained a copy of the book.
Jobs told Obama he had to adopt more business-friendly policies, saying companies were more likely to build factories in China because of "regulations and unnecessary costs" in the United States.
The meeting at the Westin San Francisco Airport almost did not occur, the biography reveals. The iconic CEO, notorious for his stubborn personality, initially insisted that he wanted to receive a personal invitation from the president. He ultimately gave in after maintaining his demand for five days, The Huffington Post reported.
Jobs also suggested Obama convene with CEOs but became irritated when the White House added too many people to the guest list, threatening that he had "no intention of coming."
Jobs fussed over the menu for the dinner meeting, telling venture capitalist John Doerr that the planned meal of shrimp, cod and lentil salad was "far too fancy." When he objected to a chocolate truffle dessert, he was rebuffed by the White House, which said the president was fond of cream pie.
The biography, which is written by Walter Isaacson and is set for release on Oct. 24, also reveals that Jobs offered to design ads for Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.
"He had made the same offer in 2008, but he'd become annoyed when Obama's strategist David Axelrod wasn't totally deferential," Isaacson wrote, adding that Jobs later divulged that he envisioned the ads would aid Obama in the same way the optimistic "Morning in America" commercial helped Ronald Reagan.

Steve Jobs seems to be more greedy than I thought.
He wanted to seem more important then he was.
ya fuck the regulations that keep businesses from completely fucking the US people over and keep our environment safe
LEAD FOR EVERYONE
Steve jobs: A revolutionary, a visionary, a stuck up asshole
Who gives? He's finally dead, for fuck's sake, let's just pretend he was never there.
Steve Jobs: Philanthropist and innovator.
Steve Jobs: Greedy, egocentric asshole.
Steve Jobs: Couldn't possibly have been anything in the middle.
Ever since Steve Jobs died, I'm always seeing the word jobs all over the forums for unknown reasons.
Wait asec, Fox news?

All of facepunch: pseudo-revolutionary, have no vision, stuck up assholes.
I think that Jobs had the upper hand

Michael Jackson.
In before this turns into an anti-Steve Jobs circlejerk like every other Steve Jobs thread has in the past few days
Did someone sneak into Jobs' panty drawers and find a diary or something? I'm seeing various news things and such about him wanting to destroy the Android OS, go to a 'thermonuclear war' with the Google OS, and other things, all so quickly after his death.
It's like one week, "Lets all mourn the death of one of the most important technology visionists (coughbullshitcough) ever," and then the next week, "Steve Jobs is a monopolist asshole of pure greed that wanted nothing but total control over the phone/OS/etc. market."
Dunno, my respect for the guy has increased a lot since stories like this one have started surfacing.
I mean he was stubborn as fuck, wanted things done his way and he was too good at what he did for anyone to say anything against it.

Steve Jobs was a terrible person and I'm glad he's dead.

Made me chuckle more than it should've.

I suppose now that he's dead he can't casually stand in front of his diary every time the reporters come knocking.
I think with Steve Jobs it's going to happen the opposite thing that happened with MJ
When he was alive, everyone hated on him because he was supposedly a paedophile. When he died everyone went circlejerking on how amazing Michael Jackson was
When Steve Jobs was alive, everyone loved him because he was a "genius", when he died things like this start popping out and then everyone starts hating on him.
Are you kidding, dinner with the President, I wouldn't be so rude to pull shit like that...
Maybe he's an Illuminati member?
Okay, Steve Jobs is dead. I get it. Stop making posts about him.
Well he was clearly wrong as not even the Republican part likes the Republican Candidates.
Am I the only one that does find some kind of truth in what Steve Jobs did say?
He's saying Obama should not be so restrictive on businesses because it would make a business more likely to outsource jobs to elsewhere in the world. I don't think it's a matter of greed, but I'm sure some businesses would still have an interest in recruiting from within the nation if it was a lot more suitable financially to do so (as in not as much risk at running a loss). Yes, labor is more expensive in the western world but I don't know if businesses in the US suffer any additional costs based on that, but Steve Jobs does mention that they do. I got no idea though.
How is wanting to create more business in the US a bad thing?

The only reason chinese labor is as cheap as it is, is because the workers are living and working under horrible conditions. By trying to match their prices, you'd be forcing the national labor to do the same.
How is wanting to create more business in the US a bad thing?
That itself is not the problem.
How Steve Jobs wanted to do it on the other hand, isn't exactly so good.
The only reason chinese labor is as cheap as it is, is because the workers are living and working under horrible conditions. By trying to match their prices, you'd be forcing the national labor to do the same.
Well why doesn't the government offer incentives to businesses that operate entirely within the one nation? Labor in the US will probably never be as cheap as Chinese labor, or at least for a long time. Governments should be offering incentives to attempt to get businesses to recruit locally, shouldn't they? I think just minimising some costs on businesses might work, but I'd have no idea on that.
Well why doesn't the government offer incentives to businesses that operate entirely within the one nation? Labor in the US will probably never be as cheap as Chinese labor, or at least for a long time.
That would completely negate any economic advantages the increased business would bring.
Well why doesn't the government offer incentives to businesses that operate entirely within the one nation? Labor in the US will probably never be as cheap as Chinese labor, or at least for a long time.
On one hand you're keeping the money within the borders.
On the other hand the government is potentially losing money on doing that.
It won't be beneficial for all businesses.
Besides part of the problem is still general work, safety and pollution regulations.
Well why doesn't the government offer incentives to businesses that operate entirely within the one nation? Labor in the US will probably never be as cheap as Chinese labor, or at least for a long time.
The switch could start in around 5 years. The company my dad works for opened up a new factory in China last year. So far costs are getting higher with each month and according to him it will be cheaper to keep things in the US in around 5 years. Now keep in mind this mostly is due to shipping costs and not labor costs but the fact still remains that China's days of being the world producer are numbered.

The day he died everyone had to say how incredible he was.
Then they found out something they don't like and like the fact he's gone.
Just goes to show how badly facepunch bandwagons.
