• Have you ever been electrocuted before?

I have very recently been shocked for the first time, I can't get too far into the details of how it happened, but it was 120V 15A 60hz on a regular NA circuit. I touched the hot side (and possible the ground or neutral) of an outlet by accident. It felt like it was crawling up my arm instantly, and I pulled away instantly. In the moment I didn't freak out much at all, but I was just exhilarated. For the rest of that day my arm was slightly tingly, and then it felt mostly fine the next day. Surprisingly I found that I also felt much better mentally, despite only getting 6hrs of sleep. I feel like it might have given me some electroshock therapy kind of effects in some strange way; I feel less anxiety and social inhibition, I feel more stimulated and aware, and I feel more alive with a new zest for life in some strange but very positive way. I'm actually thankful that it happened, I very much enjoy the way that this has all played out. Please share your experiences and the long and short term effects and feelings that you perceived. I'm curious to hear about them for science.
I stuck my finger in a lamp socket when I was a kid I don't know what's dumber, the fact I did it, or how I purposely switched it on with my finger in it :v:
I touched an electric fence once "don't worry it's off"
electrocution implies death (its in the cution part of the word, like execution), so if anyone here has been electrocuted, i think thats pretty worrying
I'm still alive, so no.
mild shock from some faulty electronics once.
shocked a few times but not electrocuted that's like overkill if you want to put it that way.
Numerous times, often because my little self is fucking dumbass. First,i got electrocuted because i touched the back part of AC that has some water on it Second,I stepped on active electric fly swatter
How did I forget the other two times, touching the circuit board of a mini-CRT transformer while it was running (was running off a USB cable so wasn't deadly), and flicking an electric fly swatter against my leg to see how bad it is
I got shocked when i was a kid. i wanted to see how the end of a cable tasted like and got shocked in the mouth. my mouth was tingly for a few seconds and then returned to normal. afterwards i walked out to my mom and asked if it was dangerous to get shocked, when she said yes i started crying.
I took a microwave oven apart and took out the tiny motor from the bottom, the one that spins your meal around. I was holding it in my hand with the terminals touching my skin and decided to use a pair of pliers to spin the spindle manually. It was then that I was reminded that every electric motor can act as a generator and I mildly shocked my finger with almost 240V of manually generated electricity :v:
Tried scratching my dick head with a plugged in cable. I had no idea it was plugged in and damaged, so I electrocuted it.
I stuck my finger between the blades of a plug that was halfway plugged in as a kid. Another time, I got shocked by a metal appliance that wasn't grounded properly. And recently, I got bit by a capacitor that was still charged..
I plugged in an electric pencil sharpener while the pencil was still in it. I intentionally left my fingers on the metal part of the plug to see what would happen. It didnt hurt it just felt weird as fuck, but I quickly let go cuz my 7 year old mind was like "this might be a bad idea"
I've been shocked by at least 20-something different fences. Sometimes one fence'll get me more than once. The Irish countryside is a dangerous place. [editline]13th July 2017[/editline] also im an idiot who likes fucking with things that can shock me.
I've been shocked so many times i don't even count anymore, first time it happened when i was 5 years old, i was trying to fix Christmas lights, i plugged them into wall socket so i could see which ones doesn't work, then i accidentally touched two exposed wires and got about 100v shock it felt that my arm muscles were shaking,(actually they were shaking about 50 times per second since my line frequency is 50hz), the pain was not that noticeable, it only hurt a bit where the wires where touching my skin, also my heart rate increased... But that was only about 100 volts and 200 milliamps since those light bulbs have high resistance... Soon after that i got full 2020v from wall socket this one felt the same only stronger. Different story is touching undischarged color CRT tv's anode that's about 25kv or 25000v now that actually felt like someone hit your hand with small hammer.
I shocked myself in the mouth with the other end of a plug. The entire room lit up.
Been zapped a few times. Worst was probably from an old crt monitor that blew up when I was a little kid. Shocked me pretty hard and hurt and tingled for a day or so. Like that thing was legit smoking and my mom freaked the fuck out more than I did. :v: IIRC I've also been mildly zapped from having wet hands and unplugging aquarium equipment. Been shocked pretty hard from static electricity too. Also those bug zapper tennis rackets are fun. Sometimes I'm not that smart. :freakout:
At work, pretty much on a monthly basis, usually it's a ~10uF capacitor charged to 340V from some switched mode power supply discharging through my hand instead of whatever it was normally supposed to. That wakes you right the fuck up
plugging shit in and my fingers slip to touch the blades of the plug, happened more than a few times one time i was getting out of a dune buggy and i guess the battery had some loose wiring or something because it shocked me pretty good [editline]13th July 2017[/editline] i also used to lick my fingers and hold a double A battery to my tongue because i liked the tingly feeling and coppery taste
I've been bitten by 240 volts a few times, lost count though. And once by a several KV backlight inverter for a screen. Even made a small pinhole in my finger.
I stuck my finger in a lamp socket when I was a kid I don't know what's dumber, the fact I did it, or how I purposely switched it on with my finger in it :v:
I did this but with a screwdriver. Check-fucking-mate.
I think I touched a power cord prong as I was pulling it out once. It just felt like a vibration, not really painful, but then again it was probably pretty low voltage and only for a second.
I've been shocked several times. Three times from light outlets, two of those involving broken bulbs. (I was working with someone else and they said they unplugged it. And didn't... The other time was on a dare.) I've also been shocked several times by electric fences. A couple times not realizing that the fence I was trying to lean on was electric, once when I was told it wasn't turned on, once on a dare, and once screwing around. My worst experience with electricity though wasn't a matter of getting shocked, it was a matter of getting burnt actually. My sister was screwing around when she was like 6-7 and I was 8-9 and got a hold of this small flexible piece of metal. She somehow managed to get it all the way into both slots on the power outlet without getting shocked. I was trying to get it out and it was getting really hot. Ended up burning the hell out of my hand and managed to pop a circuit breaker and scare the crap out of our family, lol.
I got tasered does that count?
I stuck my finger in an on light socket as a child while trying to change a bulb. I still didn't really understand what I was doing. I didn't know if the lamp was on or off, just that it burnt out and needed a bulb, so without telling anyone I got a bulb and went to fix it. The bulb had slipped, and I just, well, yeah. My grandmother came in because I was crying and showed me that it was very safe and easy to change a lightbulb if you're not an idiot. Then, later, near the same age, I was at an outdoor BBQ. I leaned on an ungrounded trailer that had a lot of current going through it. I wasn't burned or otherwise 'hurt,' though it scared me and I didn't feel very well for the rest of the night. I was told that it's very lucky I wasn't seriously harmed. It kind of spoiled the night for me. Oddly, even though I remember the experiences, I don't remember what getting shocked/electrocute feels like very well. Just that I don't want it to happen. Both experiences (and videos online of just how dangerous electricity is) have made me, not afraid of, but very vigilant in relation to electricity.
Had the cover for the light switch in our bathroom taken off and not replaced for about a year. Me being a forgetful piece of shit, I managed to forget about that and stick my hand into the wiring for a nice shock several times.
Ive been shocked many times, most recently in my lips by a microphone
My old metal-cased iPod Nano used to regularly fucking shock me, and it hurt like a bitch, too. I don't think that was supposed to happen.
Tried pulling a plug out of an old power strip and I touched one of the prongs with the edge of my finger accidentaly
