It still has 9 million subs.
It still has 9 million subs.
and it is dwindling fast. it will stop being the number 1 mmo in a few years time at most.

Yeah sure when Titan comes up maybe.

It's okay, you don't have to blindly defend World of Warcraft
It's okay, you don't have to blindly defend World of Warcraft
I think what he's pointing out is that stuff like "It's gonna die soon" and "*insert title here* is gonna kill WoW" has been said for years and not once has it even come close to dying, the only thing that could kill WoW right now would be WoW itself or when Titan comes out, either way I still have NO idea why people are still subbed to this.
It's okay, you don't have to blindly defend World of Warcraft
I'm doing anything but blindly defending a video game. It's simple numbers. WoW has 9 million subs. If half of that drops off, which is unlikely, but even if it does that is still 4.5 million. SWTOR sold 1.7 million copies and has less than 500k subs right now. GW2 sold 2 million copies a couple weeks after release but obviously doesn't have subscribers. The Secret World and TERA both sold well under one million units as well.
The only things I can see competing are *maybe* GW2 expansions and Titan, maybe Wildstar but thats still pretty heavy in developement. Everyone knows Elder Scrolls Online is going to bomb harder than SWTOR did and I don't know of any other big name MMORPG's coming out.
So yeah, it's possible WoW might not be the number one MMORPG a year from now, or two or four years from now, it's just very unlikely.

That being said it's never going to die. WoW achieved critical mass a long time ago. The developers could stop updating the game today, keep charging full price, and people would still be playing it for years from now.
That said, Not Being #1 and Not Alive are two very different descriptors.
The game is fucked since the last patch. Talents are gone, mana is gear-independent (hell why not destroy PVE even more) and Paladins lost their aura's (among other stuff). I kinda hope it dies now and Blizzard moves on to a next MMORPG
Wow lost it after TBC.
TBC was the peak of wow for the players who played it since its launch.

diablo 3?
I don't know how, but personally this game is quite good for me. I've been playing since BCand I've always found it at the same level of entertaining, something that games have a hard time reaching for me as time passes.
Maybe it's because I've been playing it for so long and just stopped caring.

but it's the same thing = kill number of mobs, do dungeons, get lvl cap, raid ur ass off at 01:00, because some members of raid don;t show up, start another character.
or pvp in those vanilla bg
TBC was perfect, its like how WoW should have been, the heriocs were really fucking hard also, it had ZA and Karazhan.
More importantly why is Runescape listed as a game drawing people away from WoW?
More importantly why is Runescape listed as a game drawing people away from WoW?
they're both probably pretty popular among users of that age group
Going to midnight release here, hopefully the expansion doesnt suck dick.
Blizzard should sue Kung Fu Panda.

Talents are still there, mana is gear dependant for healing in that you need spirit now instead of stacking intellect and paladin's lost their auras because they weren't fun at all they were fucking terrible

What are you talking about, the Paladin auras made them really unique.
I fucking loved the auras.
yes really unique, until you look at every other class with a raid buff and realize they were the exact same thing and paladin was the only class punished to use them
I miss the days of running around with my friends in Westfall. It's sad to see the game the way it is now, I have such fond memories of that game.
What are you talking about, the Paladin auras made them really unique.
I fucking loved the auras.
Fucking right! I loved swapping auras for different situations on the fly. Made paladins pretty flexible honestly, not to the degree of druids, but still. I shall miss the auras. D:
There's really no challenge in WoW anymore. I remember feeling awesome when I would take down an elite boss for lots of quest experience. Raids were amazing too, and so was the gear.
I'll reserve my judgement on WoW after I've explored Pandaria.
Right now everyone's opinions are based on Cataclysm, which was horrible, I would have quit long ago if I couldn't roleplay with my guild anymore.
"How players adventure with their panda changes the way they look"
