The game doesn't feel rewarding among various other reasons that I rather not go off on.

The statements I made are related to D3.
People rating dumb are jumping in the same sinking ship I'm in by purely jumping to the conclusion this is related to the first diablo.

This article is completely, exclusively about the first Diablo. You're alone on this ship friendo.

And what does that really have to do with an article about something that happened to Diablo I?
Many of the singleplayer quests are missing from multiplayer, and in terms of balance it's designed for four players and doesn't scale like in D2 and D3, so it's not a shock to me it came so late in development.

Why are you making posts about Diablo 3 in a thread about Diablo 1?

Well then you really should have stated so, because it kinda sounded like you were just saying greed motivated them to add multiplayer and totally change the game last-minute.
I will agree, though. How could such a great change to make the game a lot more fun have turned into the very thing that killed the series? Not that the DRM was all that was wrong with Diablo 3, but it definitely makes it seem a lot less like a release that they genuinely meant to put out to be enjoyed.
I remember another article about the first Diablo as well, where one of the devs was really pining to make it a roguelike - complete with perma-death. But the other devs thought that was far too difficult / punishing and helped tone that idea down to make it into the game it became.
