So, I searched and found an old thread from 2009 and didn't feel like it was worth bumping so I made a new one. We got thread for most of the other instruments, but not for pianos and such it seems. To get it started, I'm really curious to see how many pianists there are on facepunch. If you are one, please introduce yourself and tell me a bit about yourself such as how long you've been playing, if you've been taking lessons, what kind of music you like to play and what you're working on atm.
I'm first a guitarist and a pianist second. Too bad I really suck at piano, but still. It's so much fun. :v:
Nobody sucks at piano, nobody!
I'll make sure to post a short sample one day! (:
Nobody sucks at piano, nobody!
I think I can prove you wrong. :v: I do like playing it though, it's really a great tool for composing pretty much anything. Too bad I only have some cheapo Yamaha keyboard, I was offered an upright when family friends moved but we had no place to put it. :(
I want to start playing again and want to buy a relatively cheap keyboard, but i find it quite hard to play without weight/hammer action keys, anyone get any recommendations?
i was taught piano in a school for several years when i was young but then i discovered noise rock
i was taught piano in a school for several years when i was young but then i discovered noise rock
You can do noise rock on a piano :buddy:
Whenever I try playing piano at any sort of fast speed, I always find I hit 2 or 3 keys around the one I was actually aiming for. Is this what weighted keys counteract?
Whenever I try playing piano at any sort of fast speed, I always find I hit 2 or 3 keys around the one I was actually aiming for. Is this what weighted keys counteract?
no weighted keys are to control how hard you are hitting
I hate trying to learn a song. I love improvising and just playing what comes to my mind.
I've got a Roland SH-01 synth its awesome, I could sit and play for hours, and i dont even know how to play. just making synth madness. I wish it actually had a piano sound setting though. I have a midi keyboard which i can plug into the PC but it lags so its useless
I am trying to teach my self keyboard. Any tips would be appreciated.
All I have is a virtual one on my computer. Not that bad considering it was freeware.
I am trying to teach my self keyboard. Any tips would be appreciated.
Try to curl your fingers a little when you play.
I am trying to teach my self keyboard. Any tips would be appreciated.
Keep your palm high above the keys and don't support them on the edge of the bar, and play with your fingers, not your hand or your arm. Play melodies over and over again, and when learning a song, take it in a slow tempo, if you can't do it, do it even slower untill you can do it, and if you find that you can do it, keep doing it in the same speed untill you've got it, then do it faster and faster untill you can do it in the tempo it's supposed to be. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] And improvise as often as you can, it's fun, creative and is really good for you. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] What I mean by keeping your palm high is, press down the keys with your finger tips and not your whole flat finger like this ---- [editline]8th July 2011[/editline] Oh and, most piano songs you know and wish to play are usually really simple and easy once you learn them. [editline]8th July 2011[/editline]
Whenever I try playing piano at any sort of fast speed, I always find I hit 2 or 3 keys around the one I was actually aiming for. Is this what weighted keys counteract?
I usually never hit a clean key when playing blues in a high tempo, but that's mainly because I slide. Don't worry about it, you'll get better at it.
I recorded some Keyboard music! Very depressing world doomy pieces I originally made in metal genre form  with Drums Bass and all that jazz! I bet you guys will like it! I made many more but I guess this will be overlooked quickly so I just uploaded two of them  Tell me what you think guys :v:
The second one is brilliant! Nice!
I taught myself how to play dire dire docks from super Mario 64 on the piano :unsmith: Now I want to learn it for real
I'm not sure how long I've been playing, but it has been the most fulfilling thing I have ever done and it continues to bring me much pleasure. I'm mostly interested in "classical" and Avant-Garde music, although I often dabble in Jazz. I've also made efforts to get into the field of composition but have yet written anything of worth. Here's a video of my latest piano recital from May of this year:
I used to take lessons but I've been out of it for 5 years. I just went and found my old lesson books and played some. I'm actually really glad I still remember some of how to play.
I love playing piano. I used to take lessons, but at this point, I usually play pop, anime, and songs from video games by ear. I've gotten to that rut that I'm very, very good, but still struggle with a lot of things. These include adding more variety to my songs, maintaining tempo, and keeping a regular practice schedule. I'll upload a quick compilation of some random songs some day.
I've been playing a piano for two weeks! I'm going to take it with me when I move out for school for a year, since I won't have a PC there. I'm enjoying it so far :D
i'm going to be that guy who says you spelt "discussions" wrong in the title, aren't I?
My piano grade 4 was yesterday, sounds shit but it's my second instrument :v:
i'm going to be that guy who says you spelt "discussions" wrong in the title, aren't I?
Oh dear, well atleast I didn't spell it dickussions.
Once I noticed I read it as dick cushions.
Once I noticed I read it as dick cushions.
PM me for dick cushions. only $9.95!!
Once I noticed I read it as dick cushions.
Dick caution :quagmire: Let's stop making penis jokes :v:
Decided to learn some scales today Unfortunately the second one in the list was the blues scale so I ended up spending a few hours messing with that and not bothering to learn any others :v:
