So I've got an MSI 870-G45 motherboard and a Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition processor and I'm currently running 2x4Gb sticks of 1333Mhz RAM. I want to know if I can buy a new 4x4Gb kit that's 1600Mhz and be able to actually utilize the extra Mhz bonus. If not then I'll just go ahead and buy two more sticks of 4Gb 1333Mhz RAM. If you guys could help me out (and let me know if I have to do anything special to get the 1600 Mhz to work on my setup) I would really appreciate it.
If you really need to upgrade, 8gb is enough, so get the 1600Mhz package. Unless you are doing a lot of stuff at the same time, 16gb of RAM is overkill.
I do have a lot of stuff open at the same time. At some points I can have several tabs open on Chrome, Photoshop open, a game or two open, Teamspeak, etc. I am currently hitting the 8Gb limit at some points and it slows down what I'm doing. And yes, I am aware that if I close some tabs or the game I'm not playing then I'd have more memory to use, but I keep them open for good reason, so I really need the extra amount of memory (maybe not 16Gb, but I might as well to get the dual channel effect).
true 1600 ram wont even run on your system unless its overclocked from 1333. (which most are check the latency's) So make sure you know this.
