As you all know, PCs are prone to slowing down over time as you install new software and fill up your drive with music, pictures and videos etc etc. If I bought a new drive to be used only for storing music, pictures and the like would I benefit from improved system performance, quicker loading times and such?
You may notice a small difference, plus you will have extra storage space but it wouldn't be as noticeable as a defrag.
I had 450/500gb filled and noticed no slowdowns, at all.

Try having 36.5/37gb.
Get 1 drive for media, 1 for software/etc.etc. and the original: Delete everything but not WIndows.

I doubt you'll notice any performance improvement unless you're using a really old and slow drive, but a second drive does have other advantages. For example, I store my documents, pictures, etc and steamapps folder on a second drive so I don't have to waste time copying them back and forth when I reinstall windows.
I find having two harddrives much better than one. Not performance wise, but it's nice to have system/software on one drive, and pictures/music/videos/torrents/etc on the other drive. I also noticed a performance increase when I moved the pagefile to the other drive. It's worth it.
It's also nice if you're reformatting, you have another drive to put all the things you don't want to format over on.
Also a new drive could possibly be faster than your older one.
Depends on if its ntfs, fat#, ext#, etc.
But it will be much faster when doing things.
I usually always have music or tv playing on secondary monitor and most coding and editing I try to use my main drive so I don't get the slowdown of the stuff playing.
Plus you get the space.
I've already filled my 320gb secondary and have been backing up hd movies on dvds.
Saving for a terabyte hardrive or maybe 2 at ~$100 their worth it.

what is the point in having that much space

I'll save you the trouble: there isn't one
what is the point in having that much space and not using it
fixed
if you have these new drives, grab a partition program and move the partitions off the smaller drives and onto the bigger one(s). drastic improvement in speed overall will be noticed.
then you can expand the partitions too. so you arne't stuck with 20 gigs.
unless you're weird and like having one giant 1.3 TB drive and a full 20 gig thing...

i for instance, need another hard drive, most likely to be over 1tb because i keep digital copies of all my blu rays and movies and blu ray TV series which are like 9gb per episode.
THAT'S why
