SEOUL/WASHINGTON (Reuters) – North Korea called on Wednesday for unconditional talks with the South but the United States suggested it must first stop provoking its neighbor, recommit to a 2005 nuclear pact and take responsibility for recent attacks.
It was uncertain whether the South would heed the North's call less than two months after the North Korean military on November 23 bombarded a South Korean island off disputed waters, killing four people.
The artillery fire, and the March 2010 sinking of a South Korean corvette blamed on the North despite its denials, have raised tensions in Asia and added pressure to try to resume talks with the North on curbing its nuclear programs.
"We demand unconditional talks between responsible authorities (of the South and the North)," the North's KCNA news agency quoted a statement, which, in an unusual step, was issued collectively by the North's government, the ruling Workers' Party of Korea and other organizations.
"We are prepared to meet with anyone regardless of the past if it is someone who is willing to go hand-on-hand with us to the future," it added.
It further proposed "discontinuing heaping slander and calumnies on each other and refraining from any act of provoking each other in order to create an atmosphere of improving inter-Korean ties."
While the North's statement seemed conciliatory, the United States made clear it first wanted Pyongyang to take action.[/release]

Is it just me, or could the whole NK/SK relationship be compared with a couple of siblings beating up on each other?
Best Korea is a bit insane. One moment, they're pumping rounds into Worst Korea, the next they want to be friends.
Usually by now someone would call the counselor and get some psychological tests done.
"IM ONLY TALKING TO HIM IF HE SAYS SORRY FIRST, MOM"
"show some respect for your brother first, kim jong-il!"

Best Korea is so :smug:.
It should be, after all, it's best.
Jesus Christ, It's like China's the dad that lets the kids do whatever they want and USA's the mom that tries to get them to behave, but doesn't always do such a good job.

That's a pretty great analogy. :v:

I'm trying to think of a analogy that involves cars but I'm failing

Sorta the opposite. China is the one trying to keep peace and civility. The US is more like South Korea's best friend who eggs SK on whenever a fight is likely to happen.

It's accurate as of recent times.

China has a crazy leader, a lot of Chinese people are starting to see this. But they have a crazy leader not as bad as North Korea but still bad.

And you can tell this how?

Go around asking people who Chinese. I however know a few people who live in China but know English well enough to explain. They however do try to hide the fact that their leader is crazy but part of them know he is.

I have a feeling that North Korea will begin to crumble around the next Kim. I think China sees that too which is why they are trying to keep peace and keep NK "stable".

They better.
Erm, actually, North Koreans are taught that each succession of the royal family are gods and if you disobey them or do something they dislike you'll be stricken immediately. That's how they justify the famine and plagues in their country: "They sinned against the Great Leader."
The point being that there won't be any crumbling. North Korea is stagnant and will stay that way.

Their belief is insane.

It's not really their fault, their government feeds them this stuff.

I noticed, just saying it's one of the most insane out there.
