On one end of the spectrum, many people are happy and shocked that a character is gay.
On the other side where I'm at, I really don't care about a character's sexuality.
In this day and age, a character's sexuality is a big deal, even in a game such as Overwatch which has, in my opinion, very minimalist lore to it. The game does have a very, shall we say, "passionate" fanbase, and they've been crying for LGBT characters since the characters were first revealed.
Personally, much like you, I don't see the big deal. The fact I don't play the game notwithstanding, a character's sexuality is completely meaningless to me, so long as the character is interesting and engaging.
I like that tracers gay because it's been making people mad on blizzard forums so I've been reading it for humor
tumblr is gonna have a feast
i kinda don't like it just because it panders so hard to the rule34 fanclub
more importantly this establishes that torbjorn has a sweetheart and reaper is a creeper
wow what a buzzkill
now i can't beat off to the thoughts of tracer riding me without feeling weird

i mean every other overwatch woman character is attractive so you can adjust in time
On one end of the spectrum, many people are happy and/or shocked that a character is gay.
blizzard stated via twitter like pre-launch that at least one character was lgbt but didn't hint at who. I thought that was actually a better situation because it let a lot of the people who were looking for representation simply fill in the blanks where it could strike a chord best for themselves

She could be bi
People often forget those exist
I hope junkrat is a tri-gender asexual bi-romantic

thats okay
its part of a comic, and in a little celebration scene, not really forced in this case because its not part of the game itself, like borderlands for example. I normally roll my eyes at this sorta thing but it really doesn't matter, especially seeing that they could have just put a man in place and no one would be flipping their shit, so thats funny to me.
Should have made the woman black. Two birds with one stone.

Like the name wasn't a giveaway...
She could be bi

As someone who is bi, I forget we exist because no one thinks it's a real thing.
As someone who is a sucker for cutesy girl on girl romance, I am happy with the reveal. Hopefully Blizzard doesn't cave in to the cry babies.

already fantasizing about granny ana as we speak

hahaahahah, nice. 1,125 didn't really do it for me, but the 1,126th time you hear the same exact joke really is something special
I always find the big media announcements about including an LGBT character a little condescending.
Granted this is big because of the fanbase this time,
But some days I wish they'd just add a character that is LGBT and not make a fuss over it.

as someone who is pansexual I forget we exist because no one knows it's a thing also HUHUH YOU WANNA FUCK A PAN???

who would want to fuck a panda gross

hey man a pan can be pretty hot....specially if its on the oven :v:
Whenever a creator decides that their fictional character is gay there's always a huge shitstorm of people either hating on it or feeling the need to justify it.
I think that alone speaks volumes about where we are in society and that having gay representation in media is important, it shouldn't matter if it seems 'shoehorned' in to you.

Don't forget the army of trolls that echo both sides or make up new shit until its big enough that some blogs or "games journalism" picks up on the "controversy" and it spirals out of control.
I still don't get why sexuality is remotely important for most things tbh
There are two types of people those who are depressed and those who have started transitioning all ready nothing is too much for true love
As if official canon has ever stopped the internet from making it's own interpretations before :v:

There's nothing wrong with 'making a fuss' about it; celebration of LGBT characters/celebrities helps normalise non-heterosexuality and in turn helps LGBT people to, you know, not wanna kill themselves because they feel like they don't fit in.
In this instance though - the 'reveal' was just a scene in a comic where Tracer kisses her GF on Christmas. It's hardly Blizzard making a fuss

What's the difference between pansexual and bisexual?
