So apparently someone filmed the trailer of the Evil Dead remake, that was projected on a screen. I don't know where and when, I just found this online with no description.
Doesn't seem that bad to be honest. Sam Raimi is writing, and according to imdb this Fede Alvarez guy is directing.

Sam Raimi is writing, Bruce Campbell is the producer. It could turn out good.
Fede Alvarez: We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.
There’s a moment where a girl goes through her arm with a kitchen knife — spoiler alert. And we knew since day one the camera would start wide, she goes for the knife, you see her arm, she starts going for it. And you think they’re going to cut away at any moment, but we don’t. She just goes for it and screams and the arm breaks and falls. So we really pushed the boundaries there, trying to create those illusions… It has a particularly bloody ending. The last scene is just…I want it to be the bloodiest scene, ever. And I think it is.

This film is going to own (coming from someone who thinks Evil Dead II is the best film ever made) I have perfect faith in Bruce, Sam, Rob and Fede, the new director. Jane Levy seems like a good choice as well. It doesn't look like an exact remake as well, more a reimagining. Really excited for it.

This is the only thing Fede Alvarez has done, but it's really good. It alone got him basically into hollywood (it got him an audience with Steven Spielberg and such) and a $30million budget for Evil Dead.
They weren't even going to do a remake of Evil Dead until Alvarez approached Sam with his pitch so I'm guessing it's going to be good. And Bruce Campbell seems absolutely stoked about the entire thing.
Also for those doubting, thinking this is some sellout because of there being hundreds (probably nearing literally there, honestly) of remakes of horror films, Sam actually wanted to do this because it goes back to the roots. This isn't meant to be a mediocre remake. This is an 80's horror movie, just made in 2012. It's as if they were making it back in 1981, only with more money.
Holy God. This looks surprisingly promising, despite the fact that Ash will not be in it. Which, in fact, is probably a good thing.
I still think Bruce Campbell could kick ass as Ash personally. He's totally still got it.
[editline]17th October 2012[/editline]
And he could easily play on the whole being a grumpy fucker and being well tired of all this shit etc
If they announced they were making a fourth one (Sam Raimi's been writing a script but as far as they've announced they've not even hit page 10 in like 4 years so... we're talking about 40 years till EDIV at this pace since a script is usually at least 100 pages? Bruce will be a geriatric by then! Assuming he's not gone ahead and kicked the bucket since he'll be like in his 90s)
While I really would like to see a Evil Dead 4, I think the remake will throw all plans for that out the window.
Yeah I think it's a safe bet. They're not going to continue the original series with a reboot being the current continuity. It wouldn't work. I don't get the feeling they'll make a sequel to this one, but who knows. They didn't even know they were going to make a sequel to the original until they were pressed by their manager guy cos they had to put out another film so it could happen. Can't say I'll expect something like Evil Dead II though since this version is a lot more serious, and also not directed by Sam Raimi so there goes the 3 stooges and slapstick jokes (judging by the trailer I don't get the feeling there's a lot of that in this :v:)
It's anyone's guess right now tho.
I personally am fucking stoked for this.
So no funny? :(
Yeah, if I recall correctly, Raimi stopped working on the ED4 script and just decided to go along with the remake. I'd love to see an Ash cameo, much like mike said, he's the grumpy old guy in the woods. Kind of like a pervy old hermit. Still wears that blue shirt. Think it'd be great.
I'm stoked about the movie, honestly. It looks tons better than the Carrie remake. The whole razorblade-tongue thing got me. Happy they're not going with CGI.
EDIT:
Anybody else hope this stays in the remake?
I hope so, that bit freaked me out when I was little.
So no funny? :(
The first film wasn't even a legit horror comedy so the argument of "wtf no slapstick" is invalid completely.

That scared the shit out of me as a kid just hearing it so I damn well hope so. I half expected it to be in the trailer.
I hope so, that bit freaked me out when I was little.
I watched the film about a month ago (in prep for Evil Dead II doing a midnight screening at a local cinema- they do classic horrors on the run up to halloween its cool) and it still fucking creeped me out :v:
Yeah, it still kinda gets me. I could do majority of the movie as a kid, but if I didn't fast-forward through that part, I wouldn't sleep for days.
Hey could the OP make the video a link instead of an embed? It autoplays and is super loud everytime I open this page.
I really hope they have at least some comedy mixed in. Also pretty happy that they're using camera tricks etc instead of CGI.
I should get around to watching the original.
I hope the deadites act the same as the original. I thought all the insane laughing and yelling was very effective.
I hope the deadites act the same as the original. I thought all the insane laughing and yelling was very effective.
Completely unsettling. Cheryl's laughing and screaming throughout the movie just made you feel uncomfortable. Great directing.
brb gotta watch first two again.
Holy fucking shit, that boxcutter lick.
I trust Sam Raimi to make this disgusting, although this remake shit is really rusting.
Isn't Diablo Cody involved in this?
I mean, I thought Juno was pretty good, but everything else is just ugggghhhh...
It COULD be good, I like how Raimi and Campbell are involved and if they really DIDN'T use any CGI, I might love this just from a production standpoint.
But I gotta say, giving us a Rule 63 Ash to differentiate this from the original is kinda... stupid... I mean, I don't think anyone would really mind if it had the same characters (or even went for something TOTALLY original and ditched Ash all together).
I am intrigued, but can't call it right now.
Also, just a little something that peeves me at the moment; the tree rape is still there.
Now, I'm not going to go on some rant about how it's "mysoginist" or some such BS.
But rather because Raimi has actually said that he regrets putting it in the original.
So this is a scene that was kept seemingly only because "HEY GUYS, REMEMBER THIS FROM THE ORIGINAL? WELL WE'RE DOING IT TOO!!!"
Plus there's the fact that the original was, when re-submitted for classification in the early 2000's, rated NC-17, this will probably be a watered-down version.
But now that I think of it, that's probably a good thing.
Again, I'm not saying this WILL suck, this is just a little thing I noticed in the first trailer that has me a bit.... worried, let's say.
As far as I know Diablo Cody revised it a bit.
I think ditching Ash is a pretty good decision. I mean, if we were to watch a remake and the main character was named Ash, we'd all know he's gonna survive. Plus, nobody can replace Bruce.
And I do agree with you a bit on the tree rape thing, but if Raimi wanted it back in, I guess he has his reasons. Hopefully it isn't just pandering to the audience that would riot if there wasn't a tree rape scene.
Diablo Cody is a writer for the movie. If I'm not mistaken, they really wanted to involve her for dialogue.
They're hoping the movie gets hit with the NC-17 rating. If I recall correctly, Campbell did an interview with MTV saying that he hopes that they have to cut a shit ton of footage out just because of the gore.
I wonder if this will be more parody-comedy-horror like Evil Dead 2 or straight-horror-ish like the first?
I wonder if this will be more parody-comedy-horror like Evil Dead 2 or straight-horror-ish like the first?
Well the trailer pretty much sells it as straight horror and Bruce said they wanted to do it straight.
I wonder if this will be more parody-comedy-horror like Evil Dead 2 or straight-horror-ish like the first?
From the trailer, it looks like they're going with the classical Within The Woods style Evil Dead.
Diablo Cody is a writer for the movie. If I'm not mistaken, they really wanted to involve her for dialogue.
They say they're making a serious horror movie.
I assume that in such a film, one would WANT the protagonists to survive.
With Cody writing the dialogue, I'm fearful that I'd want them all dead within the first ten minutes.
I mean, I enjoyed Juno, but that's because the dialogue fit the tone of the movie.
Then there was Jennifer's Body and that.... just.... ugh...
First I was worried, then intrigued, then hopeful, then actually a little excited, and now I'm kinda half-and-half.
Raimi and Bruce are involved; love both of those guys, so I hope this turns out well.
