Plagiarism of Oblivious' hard work ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Section I: An introduction ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is/Why Sleep? Sleep is a necessary process of the body that rejuvenates the body and the mind. It is when our brain disconnects from the body enters a phase of idleness, hopefully. Everybody in this forum, assuming you're around 12 to 18, requires 9 hours of sleep, go higher and you become fatter, go lower and you'll feel like shit. What is a dream It is a phase in your sleep when your emotions and thoughts are projected as an environment and situation. It is also a toilet for your emotions and being woken up from a dream can put you in a shit mood. Note that everyone dreams in their sleep, they simply do not remember most of them. What is a/Why Lucid dream A lucid dream is when you have full power over a dream. Alright, it actually means being fully aware of being in a dream, but some people have difficulty understanding that. Why lucid dream? It's like the ultimate sandbox game, you can do everything! Actually, just a few things you can't do, but it doesn't matter, it's like god hood, but the only downside is that it's hard to master and for people like me, it's pretty lonely because you know everyone in the dream ain't real. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Section II: Sleep phenomena ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not all will be mentioned since some are not relevant Sleepwalk Some people have this problem, like me. It usually consists of basic activities, or just trying to sleep, like for most people when they suddenly get hot in their sleep, will usually put away their blankets unconsciously. It's not like those old cartoons where a some person with his eyes closed walks into a construction site and does dumb stuff. A sleep walker usually has eyes open, but usually looks blur. Yes, there are cases where people do kill others in sleepwalk, but don't worry, you won't do it. No one is sure how it happens, but I think it's got something to do with subconscious and failed disconnection of brain from body. Sleep talk I also have this problem. It's not as bad as sleepwalk as all you do is talk in your sleep. It's usually crap, but sometimes, it can be deep. This can be caused by a moment in a dream/nightmare. Sleep Paralysis This. This is the stuff most of us lucid dreamers are trying to achieve. It is when your body is paralyzed as you move into REM sleep. You usually see hallucinations and other stuff happens, like faster breathing. Because of faster breathing, most people are instantly struck with fear and their hallucinations become fearsome, and eventually, recover from sleep paralysis. But, if one were to stay calm, he can instantly jump into a dream and become lucid. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Section III: Dreaming as a hobby ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why a hobby? To tell and share dreams is fun for everyone and it is also a great way to socialize since everyone dreams. How to recall a dream Of course, this is the most important question. Most people have difficulty at remembering dreams, simply because dreams are rigged to be forgotten the moment you wake up. Another reason why some dream are easily forgotten is because they were boring and aren't worth remembering. Here's how you improve dream recall. -When you wake up, don't move or anything. The first thing you must focus on is the dream. -Before you sleep, repeat to yourself that you'll remember your dream. -Get a dream journal. It makes recall a lot easier and may sometimes help induce lucidity for those doing WBTB. -Eat bananas, watermelons and fish. They contain vitamins necessary for dream recall, supposedly.(I have the same dream recall with and without them) -If you're desperate, take a single tablet with vitamin b6 or 1 to 2 pills of cod liver oil Note that dream recall is a powerful placebo capable increasing chances of lucidity, shame it doesn't work on me anymore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Section IV: Subconscious ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Honestly, I can't let you go to lucid dreaming yet without learning about your subconscious. What is my subconscious In waking life, it is a manifest of all your emotions and thoughts. It is also what does work, skill and keep knowledge. If you wish to refer it as a person, then you are known as the conscious, you're like the Kim Jong Il of your body and the subconscious is north korea, you determine what goes on, what stays secret and what happens. Note that it is influenced by you and it influences your dream. Who is my subconscious The only time it is a "who" is in a dream. I don't know if I should call it an alter conscious or a subconscious, but most people say subconscious since it knows a lot about you. This, "thing" can take the form of anything and everything, even your cheesy doodle that just came to life. While it takes a form that you're comfortable with, note that sometimes what you meet may not be your subconscious, but is actually just another dream projection affected by placebo. To avoid this, don't think about what it looks like and what it's like, simply know it as your subconscious, nothing else should be assumed. How do I summon my subconscious This will be explained in the lucid dream section. How do I talk to my subconscious Now this is tough. There's two ways, both of them possibly being affected by placebos. I'll explain these two ways -Go lucid and summon it -Ideomotor response: Get a pendulum (something like what the hypnotist use for hypnotizing), try moving it with your mind and try really hard. When it moves, thats because your subconscious did that. Now set some rules and start asking away. Note that there are only 2 answers: yes, and no.
The subconscious can also talk to you by -Music in your head. -Gut feelings Just note that it is always good to remember that your subconscious is you. What and Who is my anti-subconscious First, lets get this clear, your anti-sub may appear due to reading this, so read at your own risk. [sp]Reading that first sentence has already caused incentive for your anti-sub to appear, so, good luck. Your anti-subconscious is like a subconscious, it is a pit of emotions, however, it is negative emotions. Most people identify anti-subs by them being something they do not recognize, but is capable of bending their emotions in negative ways, such as to invoke terror, fear, misery and rage. I myself have never had to experience dealing with an anti-sub, mainly due to the fact that I believe it is a placebo. It usually appears, due to a few reasons, like knowing they exist, being lucid and fear. Of course, if you didn't know they existed, it would otherwise just be a nightmare. To deal with it, it's like dealing with a nightmare, just be brave and poof, it's gone. Note that you cannot summon an anti-sub, because what you summon will not be the anti-sub. Actually, I shouldn't have said that, so good luck dealing with possible traumatic experiences. [/sp] By having read that whole section, you have ultimately screwed yourself. Good day to you ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Section V: Lucid Dreaming ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YES! How to differentiate reality and a dream If anything, even if there is so much nonsense in a dream, it's hard to realize it is a dream. This is because your brain has switched over to DREAM LOGIC, which makes you believe that you aren't in a dream, despite how messed up it is, even if your father was killed by a ravenous chicken that suddenly transformed into some hideous bird-like beast that emits black gas. The only way to differentiate is to do a reality check, why? Because dream logic has failed to cover reality checks, plus, the moment you reality check, it is the moment you switch over to REAL-LIFE LOGIC. List of Reality checks: -Close your nose and try to breathe. If you breathe, it's a dream -Look at your hands. You should only have 10 fingers. -Clocks. Look at them, look away, then look at them again. -Phones, tablets and computers. They don't work as they should. -Mirrors, there's always something wrong. -Jump. Results may vary. -No clip. Move to the point your start to fly -Push your tongue into teeth. If it goes through, quickly pull it back before you hurt yourself. -Electricity. It doesn't apply in a dream if you know what I mean. E.g. You can play your xbox360 without one and with your TV plugged off. -Nightmares. If there's a man chasing you with chainsaw, then obviously something's not right. Try running into the chainsaw.
There's no way all these reality checks can fail you in one dream. Staying Lucid Now this is a serious problem. Why even teach you how to become lucid if the moment you become lucid is the moment you wake up. Here's how you stay lucid. -Spin. If you feel your dream is going to end, spin! Spin right round. Keep spinning until you feel your dream isn't going to end. While spinning, you can also change the environment and situation with your thoughts alone. Note that it is required that remind yourself you're in a dream while doing this as you might lose lucidity. -Rub your hands together or on something. It is distracting and it also stimulates the sense of touch, thus, keeping you in the dream for some reason. -Beware of false awakenings. When you wake up, please, do a reality check. -Feel stuff with your hands. Hug stuff! Grab stuff! Touch stuff! It stimulates the sense of touch. How to summon in a lucid dream This is something most people have difficulty in a lucid dream, because if you can't do this, there goes half the fun of lucid dreaming. Remember as a kid, when you ran with a imaginary sword or something and beat your friends in imaginary fights. You could actually feel the sword, true? If you want to summon an object, you have to feel that it is there, but make sure you summon it out of your sight. You can summon absolutely anything, guns, meteors, Jesus, people, a second penis and blue gas. With the same technique, you can transform yourself, since you don't actually look at yourself. How to fly in a lucid dream There are several ways to do this -Open up a console, like in a source game, and type noclip. You will literally noclip. -Jump, you might just fly. -Run, you'll start to fly part way -Run off a cliff. No, really, you'll fly How to change your surroundings in a lucid dream I'm sure when you're in a lucid dream, you'd want be somewhere else most of the time. You can do this by -Spinning as much mentioned above -Doors, especially if you can't see whats on the other side. Just feel what's on the other side of the door and then open it, you should be where you want to be, if not, try again. -Darkness. I'm not sure about this, but if you enter a dark place, feel what the place is outside of the darkness, then exit the darkness, you'll be where you want to be. -Travel. Anyway method of travel, just feel that you're travelling to where you want to be, should work. How to induce lucidity Alas, we have made it to the moment of truth. No time to waste, so here's the methods. -DILD: Dream induced lucid dream, it is a lucid dream induced during the dream and is a very common method of induction. Simply train yourself to reality check about every 5 minutes and to differentiate dream from reality(which can be done by writing a dream journal). Then you'll suddenly do reality check, or something will happen that will cause you to reality check and voila, you're friggin' lucid. -MILD: Mnemonically induced lucid. God knows what that means. It is a method where you constantly repeat a phrase as you try to sleep somehow. Just make a phrase like "I want lucid" or "I want recall" and repeat it. If it succeeds, you'll get the desired effect, like lucidity. You can increase your chances of MILD by waking yourself 6 hours after you start sleeping, assuming you sleep 9 hours, and then go back to sleep and perform MILD. -WILD: Wake induced lucid dream. The main objective here is to suffer sleep paralysis and enter the dream through it, as mentioned in section II. To achieve this, you need to be absolutely still with your eyes closed, but conscious as you enter sleep. To stay conscious, keep your mind active, try playing minecraft in your head or drawing pictures in your head. It is easier to WILD if you're tired, taking an afternoon or trying to sleep after being woken up during a dream(6 hours after you start sleeping is the most likely time). -WBTB: Wake back to bed. It is the son of MILD and DILD as I would say it. Basically, wake up during a dream, supposedly 6 hours after you start sleeping. Then spend about 20 to 60 minutes reading about lucid dreaming or writing in your dream journal about the dream you just had. Then go back to sleep. When writing the dream journal entry, desperation helps. -DEILD: Once your dream recall is good and you are aware of waking after many of your dreams you are ready to start DEILDing! When done properly the whole process generally takes less than a minute from awake to in a LD. You awake after a dream. Now HOLD STILL! Don't open your eyes. The less you move the better chance you will have of success. This is because moving can cause your brain to come out of REM. You need to keep your mind awake, but still in that dreamy, in-between state. -FILD: Finger Induced Lucid Dream, A variant of DEILD (Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream) in which minute twitching of the fingers induces sleep paralysis. This is also good for keeping your concentration while falling back into a dream, trying to keep consciousness. If there are more methods, do inform me. Copied old OP
Yay, new thread by Orkel. By the way. Stress, messy sleeprhytme and weird food have an interesting effect on dreams. Usually (like all the time) my dreams are pretty logical in terms of both physics and common sense. They are calm and pretty simple. Yet recently i see ADHD confusing quick paced dreams and nothing seems to make any sense, i'm scared and confused in these dreams. They last alot longer than before but they are far from enjoyable.
Anyone else try eating appleseeds before bed? I've been eating about 5 apple seeds daily for the past few weeks, and the one day my dream recall was bad was the one day I didn't eat apple seeds. Eating apple seeds aren't harmful unless eaten in large amounts, and are actually good for you. Anyone of you ever eat apple seeds before bed? Because they have really helped my dream recall. EDIT: Why is this funny?
EDIT: Why is this funny?
Because you are going to die.
Apple seeds? Why would you eat that?
Apple seeds? Why would you eat that?
Apple seeds are loaded with some minerals and vitamin vitamin B-17, and although there is a small amount of cyanide in them, it would take a LOT of seeds to harm you. I've been eating them for weeks, and the only difference I've noticed is better dream recall.

oh fuck an apple tree is going to grow inside you buddy you've probably only got a few days left :(
I'll sleep tonight. Hopefully I will remember any dreams I have too.
So last night I began counting and at around 230 or so I began to go numb, losing feel of my limbs as I was fading out my body, all fuzzy and feeling hot from the inside. And then with my eyes closed I could see a light source growing lighter and lighter like when you look at the sun with your eyes closed, then I heard a loud buzzing sound. Needles to say I pussied out and opened my eyes. Was I close ?
I had yet another dream about camping Also I think I plan out strategies for fighting computer virus in my sleep I mean full on warfare, where I'm the general and the entire army, doing guerrilla tactics to root out the occupying forces Except it's not dramatized or symbolized as me fighting a war, it's just me poking around on my computer
I haven't slept very well or had a dream I can remember in the last 6 months or so. Would that be appropriate to talk about in here? Help?
Visit a sleep doctor. Also, does anyone in your family have sleep apnea?
Alright, I'll just drop the apple seed stuff. Last night, I had a lucid dream, and tried clapping like Orkel suggested, and it quickly stabilized the dream. Then, I created a cup of lucid dream extender (as another guy said), but there were two medicine-sized cups. Both said lucid dream on it, but I wasn't sure which was which. I drank one, and the dream ended right after. The stuff wass good, though. Tasted like strawberry pop.
It's times like that when you activate you item description overlay
For the past few months I've been doing daily reality checks, tried MILD, WILD and VILD. Yet I've had no success at all with achieving lucid dreaming. Am I doing something wrong or is the learning curve highly personal, meaning I'm not as inclined to have lucid dreams? It's becoming really frustrating and that's definitely not helping.
I have this recent memory of a huge fight between me and my parents, but I'm starting to think it was all a dream I have no idea what it was about, and I just remember yelling "FUCK YOU" and then feeling good about it, which isn't really like me at all and my parents havent been acting different at all so it really might have just been a dream

How can I extend the length of my lucid dreams to last more than just a few minutes? I really want to spend at least an hour in a lucid dream.
Drink lucid dream extender Actually, any type of potion will do whatever you want [editline]3rd February 2012[/editline] Also magical/scientific rings and other items
Help. I can't stay in a lucid dream for more than 5-10 seconds. It's almost as my subconsciousness won't let me. Once during a dream at night, I suddently found myself laying face down in a garden, looking at the greenest grass. I could see thousands of grass pieces down to the smallest detail. I realised I was dreaming too, and suddently I flew up into the air. I flew, and it was so beautiful. Then I fell down again, and my dream ended. It was the most vidid dream that I have ever had. I didn't know that my mind could possess such vivid imagery. It came so suddently and randomly doing another dream. I don't understand it. Sadly I don't remember what my other dream was about. Now, this night I fell asleep into a dream where I was standing in front of a girl from my class. I knew that I was dreaming, so I grabbed her boobs (because why not), and I think I had an erection because they were so damn soft. But my dream faded out after like 5 seconds as always, no matter how hard I tried to stay in it. Another time, I fell asleep into a sleep paralysis, and I heard a buzzing sound and thought to myself "this is it!" But it wasn't and I snapped out of it. Also, I can't seem to force myself into vivid imagery. I can't produce vivid imagery unless I'm dreaming. [editline]4th February 2012[/editline] And I once had a dream (not lucid) where I was in my school, and I was laying on a desk for some reason. There was people around me, and a girl from my class repeately said something like "little <I don't remember this word>". She repeated it over and over again, and her voice became deeper and slower (as if you were putting it in slow motion). I got terribly scared, and I just wanted to escape my dream, and I crumbled together on the table, untill I woke up. Never have I felt so small and helpless in my whole life. It was so weird and scary. I that think my brain is fucked up and is hiding something from me. [editline]4th February 2012[/editline] And once when I had just fallen asleep, a disgusting voice was talking to me, talking gibberish. There was no imagery going on, just this voice talking to me. I was sleep paralyzed, and I was going batshit about it. It sounded like the voice at 2:44 in this song:
Don't listen to crapstep.
Don't listen to crapstep.
Thanks for getting my point.
Boy, do I enjoy sleeping until 1pm saturdays. First dream: I and a friend dressed up in white clothes and rubber masks and sprinted (with infinite endurance) through the football team as they were practicing, yelling "I'm BETTER THAN YOU, [NAME]!" we did this for a whlile until they got pissed. The football coach (who was a dumb bitch in the dream) started getting pissy and tried to make us stop. We continued until an audience arrived. The coach, at the end of her rope, finally gave the order "GET THEM". The angry football team was happy to oblige. We expertly sprinted and dodged between, over, and around them until it was time to leave. My friend distracted them and I grabbed the football. We then proceeded to make like a tree and GET THE FUCK OUT OF THERE. We both ran north, and then split up. I started going left, but then realized running towards the school was a bad idea. I ran right while my friend ran straight, most of the team chasing him. I stopped and hid in the tall grass for a second, then when my friend looped back around, I joined him and another friend who had joined. We ran into a forest that enters into a mountainous forrestey area. We lost most of them on the narrow trails, and I got separated from the two others. I continued to run through the forest until it began to get cold, foggy, and quiet. I saw glowing eyes everywhere. Hands shot up from the rocks and tried to grab me. At this point I knew I was dreaming, but I was enjoying it too much to go lucid. I got away and got to a cliff. The land I was on started sliding off the cliff. I ran up the hill as the dirt and rocks slip down, revealing a sleek, smooth circuit board under all of it. I got to the top and it stopped sliding. I kept running and met up with my friends. That dream ended. I had a false awakening in my bed, my room all normal, except K was sitting in it. I said "Wow, I should really wright that dream down." Then I fell back to sleep. The third dream I was outside the forest with my two friends from before, reminiscing about the first dream's events. I said "Wait, I thought that was a dream." One of them told me it wasn't and the other jokingly agreed with me. I thought no more of it. We ran up the trail again and I got separated again. I came to a flat grassy clearing and decided to stay there for a while. I knew I was dreaming again and went lucid. Two british redcoats rode out of the forest and I needed a disguise. I quickly created a house with furnishings and two beds, alone with me in it and the other with "My wife", only the house didn't appear, just the furnishings and beds. The redcoats approached me and said "Well well what do we have here?" I told them "Oh, just me and my wife, laying here dying of plaque and gingivitus, so brush your teeth and you won't end up like me. I flashed them a smile of black, twisted, rotten teeth and they were repulsed. After a short conversation they offered my some british brandy. I accepted and downed the flash in one gulp. Their eyes got as big as dinner plates and they ran back to their horses and rode off. I was in a buisness lobby-type place. I instantly went lucid ant knew that this was a lobby between dreams. behind a glass wall I saw the two friends from earlier. they walked behind a curtain. I walked briskly up to them and pushed over the curtain with my mind. There stood two generic-looking people. Just as I suspected, generic dream shapeshifters. It was a good night.
yeah turns out I did dream the argument really weird

Yeah, a little unneeded, but we must not forget Jake's badass adventures in dreaming.
