Psych creator Steve Franks has teamed with rock musician Rivers Cuomo for DeTour, a single-camera comedy inspired by the Weezer frontman’s real-life experiences. The project, from 20th Century Fox TV, has landed at Fox with a put pilot commitment. DeTour centers on a thirtysomething rock star who, unable to rationalize his success and worried that he may not have the tools to repeat it, walks away from the spotlight at the height of his fame in an effort to rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success.
http://deadline.com/2014/08/rivers-cuomo-steve-franks-college-comedy-fox-put-pilot-825847/ Oh boy
I'd watch it.
-snip- Dumb joke. Who knows, it could be good.
How is it inspired by Rivers when arguably he didn't walk away from his career at the peak of his success? Its pretty much been going downhill after Make Believe, for my tastes and what I wanted out of Weezer albums. Maybe they have been getting more popular, but frankly, after Red album I gave up on Weezer.
single camera comedies are usually a hit for me

The lyrics for their leading single 'Back to the Shack':
Sorry guys I didn't realize that I needed you so much I thought I'd get a new audience, I forgot that disco sucks I ended up with nobody and I started feeling dumb Maybe I should play the lead guitar and Pat should play the drums Take me back, back to the shack Back to the strat with the lightning strap Kick in the door, more hardcore Rockin out like it's '94 Let's turn up the radio Let's turn off those stupid singing shows I know where we need to go: Back to the shack
Those have been his weakest songs in my opinion when he starts to get full of himself.

Arguably, that's the peak of their career. I'd highly suggest looking into their new teasers though. They sound less mechanical, on top of the band actually listening to and applying fan suggestions from meetups and fanclubs to strive for earlier sounds. Personally I can't wait for the new album, every preview they've posted has lead me to believe it will be the strongest album the band has had since the 90s. As for the show, I have no idea why Cuomo would waste his time with TV when most media outlets are reporting that the band is on the verge of a comeback.

When it came out, reviewers were bashing it calling it terrible and he apparently lost of a lot of confidence from it. A lot of people though, including myself, consider Pinkerton their best album now.

I have no clue how involved Cuomo is, but his writing style is pretty funny and could be a way for him to apply it.

I hope their new album is good. Going back to their roots is the best idea they've ever had
As long as its not about Rivers getting laid or thinking he's the greatest
are you talking about "Greatest Man That Ever Lived" here because that song actually kicks ass in general i think Weezer is seriously washed up, they've been around for 20 years and for some reason they just keep trying to kick that alternative rock sound. cuomo isn't an angsty teenage heartthrob anymore and it made their last two albums seriously awkward.

It felt like a big deal. Even if this show only gets one season, I look forward to it. I expect it to have a certain charm.

The song that popped into my head when I made that post was "If you're wondering if I want you" or whatever that song is.
