I wish this wasnt the case. Android gaming sucks comparatively. I can only take so much of cut the rope and I dont want to carry around a controller for gta or one of the 5 total other proper game ports.
That's most likely part of it, but I also think that there are a lot of people out there that simply don't know that the Vita even exists. It doesn't help that Nintendo's got the handheld market pretty well cornered right now.
all i know about the vita is it has like 3 games or something, thats all ive heard about it
I see less Vita advertising than I do for the Wii U.
Vita struggled due to the stupid fucking proprietary memory cards.
I bought a Vita for very cheap almost brand new but still haven't used it because I can't get my head round paying more than double current SD prices for memory.

Its physical game collection is a bit barebones, but digital is where it really shines. There's a lot of PS1 classics available, and it has HUGE support for indie devs. Sony just needs to learn how to market the damn thing properly. It would also be nice if their SD cards weren't so damn expensive, but from what I understand that helps to mitigate the loss they're taking on the system itself.
Might actually be because of its teeny tiny library of mostly JRPG remakes. Just a thought.
I actually want more JRPG's on that system, it's the reason I buy sony's consoles in the end, good for many hours of gameplay.

I agree but economically that's not a wise strategy.
PSP was great.
I agree but economically that's not a wise strategy.
Economically, JRPGs and Monster Hunter were the reason the PSP was not a complete failure, and paved the way for the Vita to be a thing.
Sure, that's why. It has nothing to do with proprietary memory cards and few, decent games. It used to have Assassin's Creed, but they ported that.
it's because it has no games.
the only amazing vita game i can name off my head that isn't a port, isn't a JRPG, and is a new IP is Tearaway.
the 3DS isn't having the same problem because it does have games.
Price is also an issue. The people who still care about handheld consoles don't care about paying more for more powerful hardware.
Vita struggled because you have to remortgage your house in order to afford a memory card for it.
If you're struggling and you have competition, you don't lock down your hardware even more. Who the hell makes you think that this retains users? One-sided prices are more then enough to scare everyone away.
In the past you bought a handheld for on-the-go gaming.
Now a days you buy one for better on-the-go gaming then your smartphone.

few decent games? there are at least five now, ho ho ho
[editline]14th January 2014[/editline]
but honestly there are great games on it. most of them aren't exclusive, yes, but they are still great games. and the ones that are exclusive are great too, except for that call of duty one and that other alien fps game thing where you're a fireman or someshit

Or playing games that are enjoyable and controls that you can feel rather than guessing 'am I pressing the right button?' Besides, not everything can be ported that are on handheld games.
I think a lot of people are just less interested in handheld gaming in general. I know I am. I have emulators on my phone but they don't make good timewasters, you have to commit a bit more than I care to do anymore, and phone games are usually just quick, dumb, jump right in and stop whenever.
the vita isn't struggling because of smartphones at all, it's struggling because nobody knows it exists
like I show people my Wii U and people say "Oh, I've heard of that. I've never seen one though."
I show people my Vita and they say "Wait, that isn't a PSP? What the hell is a Vita?"
the average consumer is at least somewhat aware that the Wii U exists as a title of a product that they don't own, people just straight up do not know that the Vita exists.

i know more people that know what a vita is than a wiiu and if i mention the wiiu they think it's probably an accessory.
i personally don't own a vita, but i wouldn't mind having one if they dropped the price a little. would be worth it for some of the games coming out like Gods Eater 2 and of course to play some of the other titles that have come out like Gravity Rush, P4G, and at least a handful of PS1 titles.
also remote play with PS4
I own a vita and I've used it once because I figured a 4 gig memory card would be big enough, when I quickly found out that wasn't the case I went online to buy a bigger one. And holy shit $41 for a 16 gig memory card. $23 for a 8 gig memory card. $80 for a 32gig memory card... Most games on the vita are 3 gigs or more, so with a 4gig mem card you can download one game, and hold the saves for it. What was sony thinking?
I could easily afford a vita right now but I see no reason to get it - JRPGs are pretty much my least favourite genre and there's very few games to begin with, better yet not JRPGs. Definitely nothing good enough to sell the handheld to me

And because Nintendo pretty much has a monopoly on the hand held game console market.

i hate JRPG's too, the main reason i got a vita was so i could play spelunky and potentially the binding of isaac: rebirth on the go. there's also a shit-ton of really great indie games that have been ported to vita and a solid selection of PS1 games.

i'm also a huge fan of media molecule so having access to their exclusives is great too.
PSVita has no games
Which is really sad. I actually want one since the system itself is quite cheap for what it offers, but the games for it don't attract me at all.
I'm a bit curious, does the Vita play PSP games? Are there still psone classics being sold in the store?
I think it's a great console, I got one during a sale, and the savings more than outweighed the cost of one of the larger memory cards.
There might not be as many games as the 3ds has, but a lot of the ones they do have are really good, course half of them are JRPG's, which apparently everyone hates.

Yeah, there are tonnes of PSP and PS1 games you can get off the online store, lot of classics in there.
Man, i would buy a revamped GBA SP from nintendo as next gen, that thing was perfection
