We have set "health" as the theme for our first step and we will try to use our strength as an entertainment company to create unique approaches that expand this business. Through our new endeavors with the QOL-improving platform, we strive to further promote our existing strategy of expanding our user base, create an environment in which more people are conscious about their health and in turn expand Nintendo's overall user base.
They're gonna continue exploring the direction they first started taking with Wii Fit, and are gonna try to use video games to help people become more invested in their own health. They're not gonna drop their current systems or games or start putting stuff on other platforms, but they wanna become sort of a health company as well. I'm... a little dumbfounded, personally. I'm not taking this as a good or a bad thing yet, but I certainly didn't expect this.
This was so unexpected I am not even sure what to rate this.. so I'll rate it useful. An interesting development but definitely something that could be the final nail on the coffin of Nintendo as a hardcore games company.
I got Wii Fit U, it's pretty fun. Combined with going to the gym and walking my dog I manged to lose some weight instead of just being able to not gain any more.
Wii fit is saving nintendo because moms buy their kids wiis so when the kids arent on they can play wii fit
Didn't Nintendo start work on a blood-oxygen sensor that clipped onto your finger a few years back, and everyone was like, "Huh? Are you going to use that with Wii Fit or what?" They've filed some odd patents that didn't make sense until recently, so I think they've been quietly trying to hedge their bets since before the Wii U was even announced. I think Nintendo saw the writing on the wall earlier than we ever thought, they just didn't let on and alert Sony and Microsoft.
You mean this thing? http://gizmodo.com/5284313/nintendo-wii-vitality-sensor-is-nintendos-second-heart-rate-monitor
I could be down for this, if you could somehow combine the addictiveness of a good RPG with fitness training it could have some really positive results :v:
I could be down for this, if you could somehow combine the addictiveness of a good RPG with fitness training it could have some really positive results :v:
In Wii Fit U they have some neat challenges for the pedometer. There's about 12 or so walking challenges that are based on walking trails/parks all over the world and climbing challenges based on monuments and buildings. Just the other day I completed the Times Square walking course and I'm half way up the Effiel Tower at the moment. But other than that you can collect stamp for reaching certain goals and there are leader boards for certain activities.
Hopefully they don't drop Third party all together.
Hopefully they don't drop Third party all together.
Where are you getting that idea? No where did they mention dropping third parties, plus at the moment there's not much of a reason for thrid parties to develope for the Wii U so..
I could be down for this, if you could somehow combine the addictiveness of a good RPG with fitness training it could have some really positive results :v:
it would rate you as you go start off by "Run in place until you get tired" at a max of 25 minutes or something as you go your rating could go up the only way to level up is by getting fitter / unless you're already fit then the game is super easy
I like this. If they hop on the VR train, imagine the possibilites for healthy/fun gameplay.
it would rate you as you go start off by "Run in place until you get tired" at a max of 25 minutes or something as you go your rating could go up the only way to level up is by getting fitter / unless you're already fit then the game is super easy
They're already doing something like that in Wii Fit U. After you enter all your info like weight and height it'll adjust your Mii to be taller/shorter and fatter/thinner. Right now my Mii is a bit tubby but with the more calories I burn the thinner my Mii gets, doing this awards me with stamps on my calendar for the day I did my activites. And it puts all my burned calories in a piggybank type thing that I don't quite understand yet.
I don't think Nintendo realizes what they're missing out on Ever since GBA4iOS came out, pokemon shot through the fucking roof on coolrom
It looks like nothing new if you haven't seen the last (or second to last?) Nintendo Direct.

interesting stuff, i look forward to seeing what they come up with. trying to mix health and video games is a great idea. personally the playcoins on the 3ds are one of the coolest ideas i've seen so far, i can't wait to see what they come up with
While this is a noble goal, it just goes to further show that Nintendo is completely clueless when it comes to what gamers actually want. They're sitting on a shitload of great IPs that they're not doing anything with, make a new Starfox that doesn't suck or something, jesus christ. And learn how to do online features. Nintendo's stubbornness is going to ruin them, it isn't 1990 anymore and they don't seem to realize
Gamers dont give a fuck about there health. Mountain Doritos will make sure of that. Sorry Nintendo, but im not supporting you on this venture.

It doesn't really have to be innovative, just do the same as with F-Zero GX and make it together with Sega AM2 with online multiplayer and HD graphics this time, even if GX still looks pretty good even considering it is well over a decade old now. Just think of the possibilities they can do now with it! If they announce it right now, I would be hyped even more for it than the new Super Smash Bros. Seriously, with the racing genre dying over the past few years, it seems like a golden opportunity to revive the franchise.
It would renew my faith in humanity for an entertainment giant to turn away from pandering to children and apply their knowledge of human machine interaction to improve people's lives. I doubt they will go into full-on haptic systems, but it would be nice.
Hopefully they don't drop Third party all together.
if they do, then they will end up like atari in it's finale console years.
They can start by getting their heads out of the 90's and getting rid of region locking.
This was so unexpected I am not even sure what to rate this.. so I'll rate it useful. An interesting development but definitely something that could be the final nail on the coffin of Nintendo as a hardcore games company.
Nintendo's making hardcore games right now and nobody's buying, though. Wonderful 101, DKC, and Kid Icarus are all pretty fucking challenging.
Isn't most of the challenge of Kid Icarus the bad controls?
I find it perfectly comfortable but i have freakishly large hands
I find it perfectly comfortable but i have freakishly large hands
My brother finds it pretty comfortable, but he has absurdly tiny hands. Although he admits that the controls take a bit to get used to, once you are past that, you have a total diamond of a game.
huh, i think if nintendo leveraged their design systems with the upcomming VR tech they could really make a kick-ass system, i mean the legend of zelda port for occulus rift shows how easy those simplistic games can be converted to this stuff, but with nintendo's combined motion tracking and urgonomic controlers they could really go off in a much different direction than what microsoft or sony are doing
